Energised vs Resistance

I don't really understand the difference between these two armour types, can someone explain for me?

It's pretty simple really...

Both are passive mods that require no activation and consume no capacitor.
Both have various versions that can add omni-resistances against damage or beef up specific resistances.

However...
Regular resistance plating only requires 1 powergrid to be fitted (good when you have a tight ship fitting).
Energized plating requires 1 powergrid and a fair bit of CPU to be fitted... but has higher resistance stats (very good on larger ships with more generous ship fitting resources).

Neither of these are to be confused with "Hardeners" which grant a +50-55% resistance bonus but require activation and consume capacitor power.
