I started playing Eve again after most of a year away from it. I am currently in a 0.0 alliance and looking to make some money...any money, but ratting is not cutting it, I'd make more per hour farming L4s in empire. I would like a passive income. I used to do invention in empire and made decent isk per day, rather passively. I also did PI, making enriched uranium making 5mil per day profit. Farming L4s in empire negates being in 0.0, I cannot do invention out there due to pos rights, and I have hit a wall with PI where I have stockpiled maybe 50mil of goods over 2 weeks or so of working it. I know that there have been some changes to PI since I left the game(not because I wanted to) but I am now making less isk per hour and day on all fronts in 0.0!

The only help I have gotten is brief descriptions of what someone else is doing on their planets and a massive amount of money per week that they say they are making, somewhere in the hundreds of million isk off of PI alone! I cannot pvp if I do not have the money, but where I know how to make money for sure, I cannot pvp!

What I am doing right now is trying to produce mechanical parts and coolant. I have my skills at 4s atm, and have 5 CCs set up. 4 planets produce the raw materials and refine into precious and reactive metals, and electrolytes and water. I then export those and import them to my 5th planet where I produce mechanical parts and coolant. I have noticed that I can pull in a lot more water and electrolytes then raws for mechanical parts.

When I last was in EVE doing PI, in empire, I used to pull twice as much materials to produce reactive and toxic metals then precious metals. This time around I am pulling in a lot more precious metals then reactive metals, to the point of sitting on a constant buffer of 60,000 precious metal doing nothing. Water and electrolytes are coming in at roughly the same amount, sometimes I have a bit more of one then the other, but another day it switches to the other material being a bit more abundant.

On planet the reactive and precious metal planets I have a launch pad connected to a storage, which is connected to 2-4 processors , and 1 or 2 extractor heads.

on the water and electro planets I have a similar set up, except I have just 1 extractor head and double the number of processors to keep up, though I am going to reduce the processors a bit now that the raws are not filling up my storage like they were.

The time spent so far, and the frustration has made PI far from passive in any means and has left me spending a lot of time trying to earn pennies. I have not seen any guides, just a few random questions, and the wiki is pointless as it has nothing from what I can see regarding set ups and changes, or guides.

With that export and imports, you just loose money. Why not produce the mechanical part and coolant directly on the planet?
Then you only would need to export the finished product.

With Command center 4 you can run 4 basic, 2 adv, factory with 2 extractor.

Poster #2 is correct. You are better of making the P2 units on the planet you are extracting the resources on.

Hope that this makes sense (just woke up).

For example with robotics. You can create reactive metals (p1) and precious metals (p1) on a barren planet which are the 2 pi parts you need to make Mechanical parts. So instead of exporting the p1 units from the planet (which cost more to export because of the higher volume / m3) you instead setup an advanced processor on the same barren planet to turn the 2 p1 units into your mechanical parts and export those saving you time moving goods around and a good chunk of isk on importing/exporting.

Unless you are selling p1 units on the market you should not be exporting those from the planet if you can make the p2 items you are planning on using.

Again using robotics as an example you can get away with making your robotics on 2 planets, with 2 exports and 1 import. Setup a lava planet to create your consumer electronics and the barren to create your mechanical parts. Once you have enough of each to generate your robotics export the items on the Lava planet and import those into the barren. On the barren planet have a processor (that sits idle through the p1 creation basically) and set that up to convert your mechanical parts and consumer electronics into robotics and export robotics once you are done. This setup would require being able to use
