How much for L5s and ship to fly

How much can you make with L5s in terms of bounties, rewards, and LP? And what type of fleet composition would you recommend for say a gang of 3 friends?

You can make about 100,000 LP per mission and a few million isk in rewards. Most missions will be against empire factions so no bounties. And even with missions against pirates it makes more sense to blitz than go after bounties.
A passive-tank Tengu can blitz some missions solo, a couple damage dealers will make it faster. Sometimes a logistics ship is handy.
A carrier can probably solo every mission that does not have acceleration gates.

I've done a rattlesnake + logi and a dps before. Could run rattlesnake + 2 dps with a rep each probably.

All the guys I know that do level 5s just decline missions till they get a non gated one and they do it with a carrier.

Not today spaghetti.

Cheap 3 man method: full passive rattlesnake, scimitar, DPS ship.
Cheap solo method: Carrier
Expensive solo method: x-type fitted marauder (golem/vargur) with crystal set and active cap injection.

Rewards: ~100k LP (+ or - 10k LP), 7-9M isk reward, 5-15M isk in bounties if you kill everything (pirates only) or 10-100M isk in tags for killing navy rats (some missions have only a few BS's, others have dozens, tag values also vary greatly). Non-tag loot/salvage will come in between 0 isk and around 10M. Waste of time collecting it unless you're grabbing heaps of tags too.

The primary disadvantage of lvl5's is some of them are broken and others take literally hours to run even with a 3-4 man gang. No one runs those missions who knows better but sadly they constitute about half the mission pool. Thus, you may get 2-3 good ones in a row but you're just as likely to get 2-3 broken ones in a row. As such, they aren't really a get rich quick thing. Realistically you can only run 1-3 a day with two toons pulling them. Some days you'll get way more (my record is around 8-10), other days you won't get any at all (my record is a week of nothing but the broken/junk missions).

One issue I've found is that the lvl 5s seem to be very poorly documented. I've been tempted to try them myself, but there seem to be very few guides or anything like that (and I would rather have atleast somewhat of a clue what I'm getting myself into, lol).

They simply aren't worthy of a guide. Most people blitz them with carriers, you have to be fracking stupid to get killed doing that way.
