T1 vs T2 Heavy missiles

So I just unlocked T2 Heavy missiles yesterday. Prior to that, I've been using CN faction HML with standard T1 missiles on my Tengu (boo, hiss noob, I know.) So you can imagine my excitement to move up to Trauma Heavy Fury missiles.

Except once I got them, they seem to do FAR LESS damage. Not a little less, but A LOT less. For a perspective, I am primarily running C2 WH sleeper sites. I know I'm fighting a lot of Frigates, and I expected the damage to be less on them with the increases explosion radius of the Fury missiles. But it's a lot less against cruisers too, and even less against BATTLESHIPS. The volleys are hitting for less, and obviously the ROF is less than the CN launchers.

I do keep a single TP on the target. I recently replaced a missile damage rig with a rigor rig, which helped some, but not a lot. So what am I missing? Is the T2 setup just worse than the faction setup? Do people usually use T1 or faction ammo against sleepers? Do I need a better/more TP? Or did I just have too high expectations from the T2 missiles?

For reference, my Tengu:

We tested Cruise missiles on Caldari Navy Scorpion. 6 CN Inferno missiles deal around 600 dmg to a AB-ing(550m/s) shield Myrm(55%). 6 Inferno Precision dealt around 1300.

Try using Precision ammo, should help against moving targets.

Remove your rigs and put on "Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst II" "Medium Warhead Flare Catalyst II" for better applied DPS.

With a small booster you don't need those cap rigs anyway.

If you're getting less damage against BS, even with a painter, then the problem is your skills. What's your level of Target Navigation Prediction and Guided Missile Precision? And SIgnature Focusing, for that matter.

T2 heavies are amazing against NPC BSs and BCs. For frigates best to use T1 heavies or precision missiles.

If you want to use one missile for everything- then use factional- which are better than T2s against everything except BSs - where they aren't too bad.

Any colour you like.

Rigor 1's work well enough without the unnecessary extra expense, I have 2 on a mission Tengu (and support skills to 5, well worth the time, btw). I just havent got around to putting t2 rigs on it yet but I use Fury's for for everything except frigs.

For frigs I use either normal t1 heavies sometimes at long range (the new names suck, why for change it for God's sake?) or Precision when closer and and frigs die quick enough, even in large numbers.

As for Fury's against battleships, Op, they are the go to tool for your best damage, just remember they have a decreased range over normal t1 heavies. Precision also has decreased range.

Besides EFT, to get your range, info your missile ammo in the launcher when fitted/loaded and multiply the missile max flight time by the max velocity to get your range. Like an unbonused t1 missile has 3750 max velocity and a 10 second max flight time. 37 km in other words (in practise you can knock off a couple km for missile and target jukes and jives).

Regardless, like others have said, train up these skills up as uyou get time:

Guided Missile Precision 4 (5)
Target Navigation Prediction 4 (5)

Missile Projection 4
Rapid Launch 4
Warhead Upgrades 4

Ps: i don't use faction missiles except for pvp, can't justify the expense in pve, regardless of what kinda pimp ship I happen to be in.

OP have a look at this, it's an oldy but a goody

Also, a quick chart of heavy missile specs can be found at http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Heavy_Missile.

As for figuring damage, there are calculators at http://www.evegeek.com/missile.php and http://eve.battleclinic.com/calculators.php#missile.
How accurate they are I can't say, just figured I'd provide the links for the FYI thing Blink
