CCP can do what they wish with their company at any time and don't need to consult with, or reassure players before making business decisions. Players are not shareholders.

We are "shareholders" in a manner of speaking and if you want evidence of that, just look back at last year and what has happened since.

I say, that does carry enough weight for CCP to reassure us that they are taking good care of their product(s) and the company.

You should file a petition or write a strongly worded letter to Hilmar demanding reassurances then. Let us know what the result is.

Being a shareholder "in a manner of speaking" conveys no rights or special considerations to players no matter what you want to believe.

You missed the memo where Hilmar made a public apology to the EVE community.

And you are right. But because of the size of the company, my vote (backed by my wallet) also weighs more on CCP than what it would on bloated giants like Activision-Blizzard or EA.

Nope, his letter (and his return to sanity) was instrumental in my return to the New Eden sandbox.

You are 100% correct about voting with your wallet, but that's the only vote you or I will get unless we hold some actual shares in CCP.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Strangely enough, unlike any other game, i suspect the EVE playerbase would have more than a few people wanting to buy stock.

The problem is that you are assuming things. We don't know how the stocks are to be released. It might be that the shares are released in bulk, so that only companies can afford them.

Yeah.
Since we all know demand and offer, CCP should know that letting players buy stock would increase demand, and highen the price.
So, if the aim is to raise money with an IPO, it probably makes sense to deliver atleast part in "retail".
Oh, and i don't think they'll sell the whole company. Anything sub-49% means not losing control (although a part of reliquished, sure)

Oh, you are so naive!

Imagine you are BioWare or EA Games - CCP is a much smaller, but surprisingly successful competor (to SWTOR).

It would be very tempting indeed to buy all CCP's shares (under a different company name), and then strip all of CCP's assets.

This is just one possible scenario.

If CCP release stock in a certain way, the shareholders could have the most power.

Still not seeing anything unique to this thread or anything new regarding how businesses and being a shareholder works in the real world, or why CCP owes you or anyone "reassurances" about how they choose to manage their company.

You are correct, they don't own anyone any of those things. However, the perception of what they do is everything and determines if those shareholders are actually making any return on their investment or are left share holding a pile of worthless ****.

There was another thread about this the other day.

I doubt CCP could go through with an IPO because shareholders are a bit more demanding than a bunch of Apocs in Jita putting on a light show...

FC, what do?

KEEP CCP A PRIVATE COMPANY!

No to public trading.

Also, its much easier to handle legal matters if you are not a public company.

Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

Wrong!

They wouldn't give a rat's arse about us.
EVE would be WoW in space which would mean we would quit anyways.

I think the job of this thread is done: As long as a enough people are aware of the possible danger of a stock release, that hopefully will be enough to prevent a catastrophic decision.

The 'worst case scenario' is if CCP release enough stock for a 'hostile takeover' to be mounted.

I reckon CCP would be an ideal company for a hostile takeover - a relatively small company on the cutting edge of technology, producing stable profit.

I quote Doc Fury from a previous post:

(The last thing anyone wants is a situation like Star Wars Galaxies, when Sony 'improved' the game in an attempt to make it more lucrative. Of course, we all know what happened next - SWG closed down.)

yeah... 6 years later....

They initially did lose most of their player base with the "improvements" but recovered over time.

They closed because Lucas didn't renew their franchise in the shadow of the new MMO.
