INCARNA confirmed as a PROTOTYPE

Ever since CCP merged with WW and announced WoD will be using Ambulation/WiS/Incarna as a test bed for technology (the tech would have been developed anyway, so might as well get something marginally useful for EVE out of it too while you're at it), we knew that that was going to happen, to some degree anyway.

So, what exactly makes it news ONLY now ?
The fact that some didn't expect it to be so underwhelming in its first couple of published iterations ?
Or maybe that early versions are unoptimized, buggy POS ?
And it's obvious CCP are content with using us as unpaid beta testers, why exactly wouldn't they be ?


Actually, its worse than being unpaid beta testers. WE pay them above PREMIUM TITLE PRICES for being beta testers.

Well, to be fair, as much as it sucks nowadays, I still wouldn't pay even half the price for any other MMO out there, so EVE is the only reasonable option for me.
Heck, I probably would think twice about paying for EVE these days (especially with the diminishing free time in RL), but luckily, I could buy a lifetime supply of PLEX with the ISK I already have, so I don't even have to think about it much.
And again, to be fair, the Incarna part is still thankfully optional. Not happy that they killed off the other option leaving only "the door" for now, but if you are to believe their promises, they're bringing a different kind of hangar back.

Overall, I give it a resounding "meh, could be worse".
The bad part is that it could be much better, but it's not.

I might be happy to test their product. and pay to do it. It's almost like a win/win situation.
Since I'm also happen to be playing a game that I think is alright at the same time. and I'm helping with its future?

I wonder if they started WoD with one room in a beta test, before they did it in Eve, would people jump at the chance to beta test it?

As a player who never wanted walking in stations at all, I thought this "conflict" of development issues was an important topic when Incarna was first discussed - in 2008.

Once the wheels were in motion and CCP confirmed (and they reconfirmed in the blog 3 days ago), that barbies in space was entirely optional, the development of Incarna and its progress means nothing to me, unless they backpedal on the sale of ingame advantages via the nex store.

The direction that CCP have seemed to be heading with Eve Online since the emergency summit/jita riots/Incarna bad press, has made me gradually increasingly comfortable. True their actions need to follow up on their words. I do get the impression that CCP understand that if they screw up again EVE Online will be history.

Miilla is like that angry old coot, who is is homeless or looks homeless that walks around the streets downtown mumbling to themselves that you run into sometimes, and cross the street to avoid. Sure the angry old coot seems funny at times but other times you have to wonder about their sanity. And whether or not it is safe to be that close to them.
