because it's really a cleverly disguised recruitment tool, and if you win, CONCORD takes you to Yulai.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Popular answer? SANDBOX!!

Unpopular answer? Well, the fact that goons managed to take territory with baby characters and (much) later do that ice interdiction thing strike me as pretty amazing sell points....which is part of THE SANDBOX.

I almost quit after being sucked into the high sec whirlpool of soul crushing boredom/pointless existence. Ice interdiction woke me up. You guys can ***** about 'em all you want, but they breathe life into what could easily be a stagnant game with all these carebears running around. /shrug

Proof? Ultima Online after Trammel.

Edit: You also have mercenary corps, both high and nullsec. I genuinely find that awesome.

Hello, hello again.

I get to fly a spaceship.

Yours?

All in one: Because it's a SciFi-Setting with own story (not being bound to any firm, book, ...), where much freedom and possibilities is granted to the player, where every action has its consecuences - which will NOT vanish within minutes, where risk ist real, a big playerbase is present, not hyped in public, and where Station walking was promised and near *cough*.

Because it is the best/least crap virtual world MMOG available.

When there nothing worth playing I'm playing EvE. Currently waiting for GW2, when it comes out I'm out of here for good.

can't believe no one has said it yet

because of falcon.

also real reason: immersion immersion immersion, nothing else (game wise) comes close to the feeling of a real sci-fi universe.

The forums.

I would not play if there were no forums.

Because i live in a basement and im 55 years old.

When im not playing this game i think about suicide and my general worthlessness

Also when i kill someone i hope that i take something from their life just to make them a bit more like me.

Also

This is the best sandbox game ive ever played and it helps me unwind and i can troll my friends and the forums
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

Eveboard.

Seriously...with six characters currently being developed, I can spend hours flipping between them on EB and deciding where I'm going to take them next.

I love science fiction, space, spaceships, all that goofy stuff. EVE is the only game with that kind of "feel" to it, and gets it (mostly) right.

The number one reason I play eve is that It is eve and there is nothing else like it

To me eve is so much, The friendships and the trust in the pilots you fly with. The destruction of assets, the ability to do what you want within the gameplay. There is no end game, you make your own. All of this and more is eve and that is what makes this game special.

I would rather die on my feet, than live on my knees

I don't play Eve when I have better things to do. Eve just passes time when I have nothing to do. This isn't true of my way of playing most games...
