Ship History and Veteran Ships

EDIT: Idea flawed, please let thread die.

Simple enough, whenever you purchase a ship, you get a copy of the ship's log. The ships log holds a collection of the following.

- Previous users of the ship
- People the ship has destroyed
- And dates of assembly, repairs, sales and purchases.

What purpose does this serve? It's just a little fun factor for ships. Some ships will become more valuable than others if a famous EVE player once sat behind the controls or if some ships have gunned down large amounts of people.

Of course some people can opt to erase the captains log down to the day they purchased it. So if you don't want your statistics on that ship to be revealed you can erase your history and only your history. History can also only be erased when you are still in possession of this ship of course.

With ship age and usage being recorded this gives us Veteran ships!

Veteran ships are old ships that get a 10% bonus to all stats! In order for a ship to be a veteran ship it has to have been flown for a total of two years. No, it can't just sit in the hanger or be in your possession for two years, it has to been actively flown for every hour of those 730 days. It doesn't have to be flown 23/7 it just has to make up the total of two years.

Veteran ships can be any ship and as you would imagine will be very pricy once they achieve veteran status.

assuming someone plays for 8 hours a day, that means over 1000 days of flight time (i.e. THREE YEARS).

no.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Perhaps extending it to a total of 5 years?

First off, keeping a record of ship history would be bad; that's more database overhead for no real benefit.

Second, bonuses for staying alive is very very bad. It would disincentivize PvP, increase the gap between vets and newbies, and generally stagnate the game. It's just not a good for the game at all (same as the horrible "implant bonuses grow with time" thread from the other week).

Reasonable enough, thanks for the feedback.

The database size for this wouldn't be that bad. I approve of the ship log idea, but not the veteran status. That is just wrong.

I too agree that Ship history will be interesting, the vet bonus however should be left out.

A simple history wouldn't be any different that storing a players corp history or combat log. Simple text that the database wouldn't even notice. These are the things that would be nice to see.

Ship commision date
Number of hours flown (in space)
Number of jumps made
Number of systems visited
Total damage taken
Total damage delt
Number of ships destroyed

For each individual ship in your hanger. Personally I think it would be cool to keep track off.

With differing stats on ships though, it would be impossible to stack them.
And each "simple text" record might not seem very taxing... but you MUST account for how it's going to work when you have 200+ people crammed in the same grid.

Hell... there are already problems when you try to pull up info in-game on someone who has been in 10+ corps.

And this is strictly my opinion... but adding "history" to each ship doesn't encourage people to see their ships are mere "tools." Instead, people will become too attached to their ships, possibly/likely becoming risk adverse, and unwilling to engage in activities that may or may not threaten their ships survival.
Then people will start whining about how their "special ship" with all it's history can be brought down by a bunch of freshly made frigates with no background... that people should get bonuses for the age of their ships... which further produces risk-aversion and promotes people to stockpile ships for a period of time until said ships have "matured"...

......

.... guuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

In short... no.

I like the log but it should only hold

Date of construction, and who built it.

Log of people who have flown the ship

and if this goes into effect I think all ships models should stay the way they where when created, so if you have a scorp that was before the remodel you would still be flying around with the old way it looked. Unless it gets "refit" in a repair facility, And that would show on the log.
