Security Status

Every region in space is associated with a security level. The safest regions in charted space being 1.0 (highsec) and the lowest 0.0 (nullsec).

The true lowest security space is that of wormhole space, which is -1.0 you won't be able to see these regions on the map though.

In regions 1.0 - 0.5 you are generally considered 'safe'. For this is the area where you are guarded by CONCORD, the in-game police.

In 0.4 and below, other players are free to attack you at will without interference from CONCORD. If you are new try and stay in highsec for a while until you learn more about the game.

1.0 - 0.5 - High Security (highsec) - Concord Protected
0.4 - 0.1 - Low Security (lowsec) - Not Protected

0.0 - Lawless Space (nullsec) - Not Protected

-1.0 - Wormhole Space - Not Protected

Lets say another player initiates an unprovoked attack on you in a 1.0 territory, CONCORD will arrive within a second to destroy them. CONCORD will only come to your aid in the regions 1.0 - 0.5 for the regions below this are considered low security space/lawless space.

This needs some serious re-wording. Try something like this:

Quote:

Every region in space is associated with a security rating between '1.0 ' and '-1.0'. The security rating is an indication of how deadly the NPC pirates are, such that extremely negative systems occasionally have high-bounty Faction and Officer NPC's patrolling the asteroid belts and gates. Wormholes, home to the deadly Sleeper NPC's, all have a -1.0 security rating. The security rating is also an indication of Concord's Presence.
[list]
  • 1.0 - 0.5 - High Security (highsec) - Concord Actively Patrols the System
  • 0.4 - 0.1 - Low Security (lowsec) - Concord Alerts players to criminal activities.
  • 0.0 - -1.0 Lawless Space (nullsec) - No Protections...
  • -1.0 - Wormhole Space - Similar to Nullsec, no protections.

  • In regions 1.0 - 0.5 you are generally considered 'safe'. In these "Hi-Sec" systems, Concord patrols each system and will quickly hunt down and destroy any ship that partakes in unauthorized (criminal) aggression. Be weary, however, as suicidal criminals can occasionally destroy your ship before concord arrives. Concord's response time varies from a few seconds in 1.0 space to about 20 seconds in 0.5 space.

In 0.4 - 0.1 Systems, there are no Concord patrols. Whenever a pilot engages in criminal activity, Concord flags the pilot as a criminal. Every Gate and Station is armed with guns to shoot down flagged criminals, but they lack the firepower to harm well-tanked ships. In this region, Pirates often camp gates and roam about looking for victims to kill. While there are more opportunities to earn isk in these regions, they are also much riskier to live in. This is also the region where the four empires battle for dominance in Faction Warfare.

In Wormhole and nullsec space, there is no law beyond what you (and your friends) can enforce. Venturing into these areas alone is very dangerous, as people typically shoot first and ask questions later. Travel is often hindered by warp bubble technologies, and many entry points are continually guarded. While life in these regions is more difficult, the rewards are significant greater than what you typically find in high-sec. It's strongly advised you work with friends when partaking in any nullsec/WH adventures.

Definitely a nice guide, I particularly like how you interweave a bit of lore to set the context!

Any comment on my suggested change?

I really think its appropriate to avoid the "concord protects you", because they dont... At best, they avenge you before any serious harm happens...

Agree, CONCORD won't protect you, all that CONCORD does is punish an offender.

Saying CONCORD protects you give people the idea that high-sec is 100% safe, while most of the time CONCORD will show up after the offender shot your ship.

All my characters are at the beginning missions (where you can test professions before deciding) and i cant beat the 2 combat ones, can i skip these and move on? I am interested in mining/exploration but just dont want to roam around aimlessly, i'd like a "mission" to do

I'm pretty sure you can. Try opening your tutorial agent window which can be found in the help panel. Select one from there :)

Suggest you upload to eve-wiki, and i will be referring my new pilots to this guide assuming it gets finished and spellchecked.
