Logistics ship questions...

Ive been reading around various tutorials and guides that i can find regarding flying a logistics ship. I know the who where when and why of logistics but im at a loss as to the "what".

I am really torn as to what logistics ship i need to be going for. Right now im aiming towards a scimitar just because i started off as minmitar and im already getting my cruiser skills up. It would seem to me that its just different strokes for different folks and really doesnt make a difference but ive spoken to a few people who swear that if i get a scimitar im straight ******** and need to get a guardian instead.

At this point im still about 35 days out from being able to get either but i have to make up my mind as to which direction i want to head in. If anyone has any input that would be great.

Scimitar is the most popular pvp shield logi
Basilisk for pve shields, works in pvp but not as good
Guardian has been the armor logi of choice for ages
Oneiros recently received a buff and i can see it working for armor gangs but not sure.

Scimitar and Oneiros work well on its own and could provide Tracking Link-Assistance to Turret-User.
Guardian and Basilisk work best in groups of 2+ (because of Energy Transfer).

If you not sure if you have other people with Guardian/Basilik in Group, skill Scimitar/Oneiros. The Turret-Boats would love you too for the Tracking-Link.

Onerios is good logi for small gangs. My old corp used them in HS Merc work.

FC, what do?

maybe i can help, i fly the amar logistics

Logistics ships, like any other ship are best when the skills for that ship are maxed.

if you are looking for a support ship, be careful as the dps on these is not very supporting.

ask yourself this question

what ship type do you want to support, and by ship type i mean armor or shield? this question alone reduces your choices by half.

then it comes down to race loyalty.

if you are minmatar and armor then the path is set. dont get confused with what ship is the best one. rather see what ship fits and then fly that ship very well.

enjoy the day

Best way to determine which logi to train for is to ask yourself a few questions:

Do my gangs typically fly shield or armor ships?
When we fly in larger gangs, are we flying shield or armor ships?
When we bring logi's, what kind of logi's do we bring?

After you answer these 3 questions, it should be obvious to you which logi to train for. There are a few other small nuances regarding scimi v basi and guardian v oneiros, but don't get too caught up on that.

I would recommend scimi/oneiros first depending on your preference for armor/shield. Since you dont have to worry about cap chains you might find them easier to learn to fly logi with. Once you have both of those all you need for a basi/guardian is the appropriate cruiser 5s and energy emission systems.

I used to have a clever sig but I lost it.

You won't go wrong flying both the Scim and Guardian. I mean, except for not being able to fly the Basi and Ony. :P

All the Logis have a place, though some niches are smaller than others:
- The Basi is the best logi for small gang brawler shield fleets (with or without energy transfers)
- The Basi is the best logi for large shield BS fleets (energy transfers and big tanks FTW)
- The Basi is the best POS repper. (Seriously, don't admit you can fly the Basi if your alliance does lots of POS repping)
- The Scim is great for certain nano fleets
- The Ony is the best logi for small gang brawler armor fleets
- The Guardian is the best logi for large armor BS fleets (energy transfers FTW)

I didn't mention which was the best logi armor nano fleets (think SFI, Zealot, ABHAC, etc). Its probably the new Ony, but historically those fleets have fielded Guardians. You'd need to ask someone that does blob warfare.

thx for the replies... i suppose im just having a hard time finding my place in the corp right now. Seems like pretty much everyone is dps oriented and im new so its been rough getting answers on how to perform a support role full time.

If this is the case you should definently go for scimitar or oneiros depending if your corp flies armor or shield fleets because they can be cap stable on their own. If your corp flies mixed pots and pans fleet you should probably start looking for a new corp.
