Still no love for us deaf pilots? Where is the English subtitles on CCP's videos/vlog already? UghSad

To be honest, I'm probably not the first person whose never actually thought of that before... and it goes to show how long I've been playing, that for a second or two, I thought you were trolling :(

Well, it's an understatement to say that "that sucks", so instead I sat down and tried to figure out how the hell to do it... It's not horribly difficult apparently - it just takes a while. So, I'm uploading a subtitled version to YouTube just now, and it'll be finished shortly.

I hope it helps.

Oh, and I've never done this before, so I'm hoping I did the right thing by not including all the "Umm..." and "Uhh..."' pauses, or repetitions, like. "and I... and I do this thing...", etc.

Hate to burst your bubble, but rookie ships don't really present anything memorable.
Sure, you'll get a major use out of it running through the first tutorial .... and that's about it.

One of the core appeals that pulls players into the game are the ability to customize their own upgrades - there's already a sheer choice and variations out there.
Have you guys actually measured the avg time that genuine new players spend in their rookie ships?
Consider this, having an ugly rookie ships will spur many players to "upgrade" as soon as possible. You've then succeded in getting the players to interact and immerse themselves into the game, out of sheer necessity for better aesthetics.

Plan things with more substance. This is just wasteful *shiny* fluff.

There is something I don't get... when I started this character, I flew the rookie ship for like 1 hour, then gleefully shifted to the much better regular T1 stuff the NPE supplied me through tutorials.

Also, when i started my first character ever, back in October 2010, I quickly fled the almost useless noobship i kept losing over and over (even if it was free). I have a much fonder memory of my first (and hardly earned) destroyer than about that silly noobship.

Noobships are like "get rid of it ASAP", so, why the effort making them look cooler? Question

I mean, WHO really flies a noobship long enough to name it or even think of it again once they give you that cool T1 frigate/destroyer/industrial, one hour into tutorials?

Although I recognise the need to update art assets and maintain a consistent look & feel I am a little sad to lose the classic ship designs (I still prefer the old Scorpion for example).

I also think that the new look ships can sometimes collide with their flavour text (whats going to happen when the old warhorse that is the Dominix is redesigned?)

How about adding just a small addendum to this text on the re-done ships, something like "Redesigned in YC113"?

I like this idea.

The upgraded ships look good and they seem to have moving parts on them that will make em more "engaging" at first. I like that alot.

It seems to me the entire old ibis design was moved to the enginecell, which is a good way to remember the old workhorse. As usual it is clear that the best rookie ship is and always has been the Impairor who keeps his looks with a slight aggressive sleeker update.

Update ALL the hardpoints!

Really. Most turret hardpoints are so ********. Base of the guns sticking out everywhere.

Also, redesign the Talos hardpoints. If it's meant to be a blaster platform, why does it look so insanely good with the largest railguns, and so bad with blasters?

Shiny reaper is very, very bad. It needs about 600% more rust and scrapmetal on it. Evil Well, actually more than 600% since 600% of 0 is still 0. I'm sure the minmatar are very concerned with the quality of their free ships.Roll

CCP just screwed up bigtime! You just admitted to having high poly models of ships that are not being used in the game! I want high poly models as an option for my client now! Why you tease me like this!?

Sweet! So the T3 frigates will be based on the rookie ship hulls?

I have one friend who decided against continuing with the game because his first impression of space was the current ibis. I have two who didn't continue because they didn't really "get" the tutorial or didn't like having to wait the 12 or so hours at the beginning of the game to get into a rifter or other cool-looking frigate. New player experience is extremely important, and upgrading the noobships is a large part of that. Sure, older players tend not to care, we're rich and experienced and never use the noobships anymore, but it's surprising how important that small detail is to new players.

Another thing that would be great is a more active in-game music setup. If combat music was activated when a player was redbox'ed (by player or rat), for instance, I think it would add to the younger-player game experience. There's nothing quite as jolting as losing your precious new cyclone in a level 3 mission while the peaceful music of a relaxed new eden plays in the background. Again, not a big deal for older players because we spend most of our time on fleet comms anyway.

As someone who spend several weeks in a rookie ship I feel I speak with some authority Lolwhen I say this:
They look too much like T3 ships.
But I never flew T3, so there goes my authority.Lol

I will take the new rookie ships as proof that CCP hates Gallente.

Leave the original Rookie ships in-game, but start issuing these as Mk2s. That way, if you want an old one, you can buy it off of the market and the new ones will be around.

lol wut,

Any single game out there that uses Normal Maps on there models will have high poly models, thats the whole point of a Normal Map, if they put those high poly models into the game, the game and or your computer would crash and burn,

Most games high poly models can be in the 500,000 poly mark easy for one model, when you bake out the Normal Map and wrap that baked information on the low poly model which would be say a... 5000 poly model you get a lot of the detail from the texture as if it were a 500,000 poly model,

If you had even eight to twelve 500,000 poly ships being rendered in the EVE client good luck getting a frame rate over one, no matter how good your pc is, the game engine probibly coulden't even take it,

Its no secret video game companies have high poly models of there art assets if they go with using Normal Maps lol

If you want more detail, demand high resolution Textures and Normal Maps

People collect the oddest things in Eve, Can these new ships be a second version so us collectors can save back a older version as a reminder of how things were ?

Thank you so much! No I'm not trolling about me being deaf. I also have several friends who play EVE that is also deaf as well. I've been trying to get CCP to sub their video/vlog for a long time with zero luck. :-\

The exclusion of the pauses is okay with me. All I want is to understand what the hell they are talking about.

I appreciate it greatly!

I think one of the great injustices of Eve has always been that the Impairor model was used for a noob ship. Such a beautiful looking ship should have been used for something more of us would fly.

CCP Guard, I'm pretty sure a lot of us would like to see...You know....New V3d Minmatar and Amarr ships.

Here's an idea. Open up a poll on the forum, where we can vote for one Amarr ship, and one Minmatar ship. Make it last a week, and show us some screenshots of the ones that got the most votes Big smile

I am glad to see that you are keeping to the rookie ships basic design roots, and making it more snazzy.... I approve of this move! Big smile

Although I think the galente ship looks a bit too "sharp" for my liking, and shouldn't the Ibis be asymmetrical?

I can not agree more!! Many of us have encountered this but haven't wrote it down I'm sure of this. But your gonna hear it today
Tha Ammar ships, just look sexy-fact.
The Caldari- Looks,and feel militaristic-fact
The Minmitar-Look like tribal, nomadic, genius engineers to make that mess fly-fact
The Gallente- look like a drugged up, 1/2 stoned engineer on a bad hair day, hateing their job-Why is this?
Where is the elegant, sleek, artistic design that a freedom loving space faring race could make?

CCP Guard, your fav ship is a 'Gas cannon thorax' The image of this is laced with an air of artistic beauty, and bold engineering. Symbolic of Gallente know-how. So WHY in god's green earth, do the Gallente ship look so bad?

The Atron-What happened to the other side of the ship? Did a space monster eat the wing?
Imicus- what happened here? A drunk day? Symmetrical redesign is needed. (Dont let him drink while designing this).
Incursus- Looks fine, keep it.
Maulus-It's ok, Keep it.
Navitas- Looks more like a Serpentis design. Was that the idea?
Tristan- For a T1 is barley ok, but the T2, needs to lose the flange like pieces that stick out. Make a T2 look like a T2.
Catalyst- Reminds me of the Star wars B-wing bomber. Leave it, it's a fun ship to look at, with rotating radar thingy.
Celestis- OMG a terrible design. Was Medusa asked to assist with this one? Please fix. My FRecon is laughed at.
Exequror- For a Hvy Cruiser with a support mission, understandable, but the engine lay out is.....well odd.....
Thorax- One of the few BETTER looking designs. Only modification would be possibly the lower 'leg' engine....remove it.
Vexor-Actualy a good looking ship.
Brutix- This has a fierce look. A muscular look. Reminds me of Babylon 5 race. It's ok, keep it.
Myrmidon-Cool design, it's a good one. Keep it.
Dominix- For an 'Old Warhorse' it look like a big Toe (foot). Or a wad of old chewing gum. Please modernize the looks.
Megathron- This is actualy a good design, symmetrical, make sense.
Hyperion- it looks like it should be a rotation tea cup dispenser. What were you envisioning on this? Can we try again?
Iteron- What can be said here. Iterons are...iterons.... design makes sense.
Moros- Looks like a bubble factory exploded, and you went and slapped guns on it.
Thanatos-It's ok, and look almost completed, but knowing about the big brother Nyx, we can leave this alone....for now..
Nyx-Truly beautiful ship. Everything is well placed. Streamlined, symmetrical, looks worthy to fly. Something to work towards!
Erebus- It looks like a Brutix on steroids that mutated, and went terribly wrong. But what do you do with something that big?

I know I've only picked on Gallente but while the actual game play is 'balanced' the visuals is vastly neglected in the Gallente department. Help bring some pride back to the Gallente side.
They need help to bring some people to the gallente side and have people WANT to fly those ships. Not laughter.
I've got lots of idea, of design but I will follow up later on the other races.
