The entry called "And much more!" .. does that include round-tables where the participants are blue-balled by CCP?

Was a huge success last year so would be a shame not to repeat it .. forums still have open threads about it where silly stuff like chess boxing went away immediately after!

We will most definitely have round tables next year, as always. Harpa has 4 rooms that can serve very nicely as round tables. In the past we have only had 2 rooms (3 rooms FF11).
But these rooms in Harpa are smaller, which has its pros and cons. A smaller room means less people that can attend (more rooms to try and compensate) but much more personal and a higher quality experience for participants.

Gorgeous building!

I'm an architecture fan and would maybe come to see the building, but not a big fan of CCP lately so will probably stay home this year.

Have fun!

Just be aware that the roundtables are one of the most interesting parts of FF, since players can actually engage in a two way discussion with the devs. As such, you'll need to make sure you have sufficient places on roundtables for the expected demand.

For highly popular topics (like 0.0 warfare) you might need several simultaneous roundtables to accomodate all the players (this was done at fanfest 2008 or 2009 too).

Failing to provide sufficient roundtable capacity will be very disappointing to many players, so please take care this doesn't happen. A "more personal and higher quality experience" doesn't mean much if it's something only a handful of people get to experience.

Hopefully, Iceland Air flights from Canada will start the weekend of Fanfest, not the weekend after as happened this year. Iceland Air's summer schedule (which includes direct flights from Toronto and Halifax) started March 27, 2011.

Some of us are loathe to fly through the US, and would require direct flights.

Sadly, the decision to attend is entirely based on Iceland Air's scheduling. I'm looking forward to attending, but only if I can get there directly.

Confirmed this morning.:

Hello,

YYZ service will start on 3/28/2012 (Toronto)

YYH service will start on 6/7/2012 (Halifax)

Regards

Icelandair

So the odds of me and guest attending is now not likely. Any chance of moving FanFest a few weeks later (into April) for 2013 ??

Easter is one of the reasons we have to do this in March because throwing an event close to or during Easter is not a good thing. Moving to close to summer in Iceland means high season in the tourist industry meaning higher prices on everything.

But, Easter is very early in 2013 so we might have to go April and that should be safe without hitting high season.
This is at this point only speculation.

We can try our best to influence Icelandair to offer special Canada Fanfest flights but in the end of the day it is up to them of course.

Really looking forward to this, as i missed this years cos i moved house instead. Seen the Harpa centre pics and its looks fantastic, and it's more central than the sport's centre, but it means it closer to the bars. Just not the cheaper hotels :D

Thanks for the reply ! 10 years, eh? Should be a blast.

Still hoping I can find a workaround for 2012, though.

I have had a lot of fun at Fanfests - so long as they are in the spring, however, I will only be able to attend virtually. And a big thank you to CCP for the great coverage of fanfest 2011 that made it possible to virtually attend. Big smile

Flying to UK from Canada and back to Iceland is a very long route, considering you fly over the southern tip of Greenland and Iceland to land in Manchester. It would be like walking 5 blocks east, turning around and walking 2 blocks west, instead of walking 3 blocks east.

Sadly, flights to Greenland from Canada are tougher to find than flights to Iceland.

2012 isn't dead yet, its just a matter of finding the global minima, not just the local one(s), and seeing if it is an option.

Plus, pushing FF any later might run afoul with CCP Greyscale's next April Fools Null-Sec Nerf. Recall this past year's FF when CCP pulled the rug out from under smaller-scale null-sec entities via the Anomaly changes right after the event w/no mention @ FF?

That's called the 'butter'n'bone' in industry jargon. Pirate

I don't know if I'm just jaded due to my age or if the people who complain about corporate sponsorships just don't understand how this horse and pony show work.

Companies like nVidia don't just give away tens of thousands of dollars to companies like CCP to hold these types of events out of the goodness of their cold, calculating hearts. They demand an audience to help recapture that cash investment.

Personally I would much rather have companies like Polar Beer sponsor eve verses nVidia. At least I could use some free samples of their libation while at the show. And I wouldn’t mind wearing a tshirt from Polar Beer.. but you would never catch me in an nVidia shirt… or the Quafe shirt from last year’s fan fest. That **** is just too nerdy for me to wear in public.

Do we have a rough date when the packages/hotel details will be available?

PS: This year can we please have the tournament rounds on time as I had to leave 4 events last year just to wait for our second round match. By that time we no longer cared and openly discussed throwing the match to get out of further rounds as we were missing so much of that day.
