Solo/small gang
1. ****-fit Tempest
2. Dualweb nanodrake
3. 100mn Tengu

****-fit Tempest has great DPS, good enough tank and the 2x heavy neuts are like having a Curse alt running around with me. Nanodrake has a really wide variety of targets it can engage and win against, with a lot of dudes thinking to themselves "it's just a drake" and welping their pwnboat to it. Tengu is pretty obvious, speed, sigtank, "good enough" DPS, etc.

Fleet
1. 10MN Tengu
2. Muninn
3. Gila

Tengus ****, flat out. So do Muninns. Gilas are pretty pro too.

Drake. It's hard to find a reason to fly anything but.

Whatever is in the hanger that I don't mind losing.

Some days I only feel like losing frigates - other days I sacrifice Battlecruisers to the blob gods.

Thanks for everyones replies. I like the look of the Harbinger but I started Gallente, so I guess I should at least train to a point where I'm using those ships. I don't want to cross train too early.

Gallente has nice battleships. Below I only find the Brutix mentionable (concerning T1 fleet ships).
Don't hesitate to crosstrain. It's rarely wasted.

You sir, seem not to have heard of the Myrmidon yet.

Nobody really uses it in fleets (or shouldn't). Except for specialized spidertank experiments.

I've flown them in shield fleets but frankly they never impressed me in that role. Sad fact is, as boring as they are, the drake is better for fleets.

As a solo pvp ship for low-sec, however, the Myrmidon really shines. If you set them up well they can tank like a brick wall (passively tanks >500dps or even up to 700-odd if you bling-bling fit them) and make reasonably good dps at short range too. It means you can perma-tank gate guns plus some degree of dps while fighting with drones and neuting. For attacking things like ratting/mission running ships, it's really good and it's the best low-sec gate camping ship in the game if you ask me. In combination with a rapier it's pretty awesome and I'm reasonably confident that it can solo any other T1 BC sized ship or smaller with relative ease. They're not that good against nano ships though because even though the nano-hacs/cynabal etc. aren't really a big threat to it, they can just burn away when they realize that they can't kill you. That's why it's best to work together with a rapier.

Just don't put it in a fleet that needs to fight at any range.

These days I spend most of my solo PVP time in a vagabond though. It has a crappy tank but you can compensate by sig tanking it with drugs and implants and it makes a good battleship or Tier 3 BC killer. It's also quick enough to gtfo if you end up biting off more than you can chew. It requires a little more finesse to fly than the myrmidon but I find it more fun so I fly it more.

As far as recons go, my favorite one to fly is a dampy Arazu, especially in a small gang or for BLOPS if we're attacking battleships or any kind of ratting ship that isn't likely to be mwd fit.

As a total nub, I'm really enjoying the Arbitrator.

I appreciate the versatility that it provides. I can set it up as a long range drone sniping boat, a beefily tanked brawler, or an EWAR boat with TDs and Neuts.

Even as a plain ECM jamming boat, it functions very nearly as well as a Blackbird. What you lose in jamming strength to your ship is almost entirely made up for by the full flight of Medium ECM drones. You need to be at a closer range to do it, but you get a much bigger tank to compensate. The range between the Blackbird and the Arbitrator in terms of ECM Ewar is much smaller than people think.

Basically the Arbitrator can do anything except WTFGank DPS (although its DPS is still solid), but I guess nobody gets EVERYTHING.

Did I turn a simple question into a love letter to my little Arbi? My bad. Oops
