Semi-AFK Proteus with rails?

Battleclinic and Pyfa both show it can be done, but... My non-alt is skilled for rails and active armor. When the phone rings, I can reasonably expect to survive anything for five minutes, except extreme bad luck, when running L4s. As a practical - as opposed to fitting-fu - matter can a rail Proteus be flown semi-afk?

For clarity, I'm likely to stick with my Mega for most L4s. But I see fun to be had taking the Proteus into C1-2s and am considering running L4s with it to get a better feel for it. I've got partially-trained blaster skills which can quickly be brought up to speed but my flying/tactical experience is all with rails. If rail Protei aren't a viable semi-afk solution, are blaster fits any more likely to survive my inattention?

Fitting suggestions very welcome.

Incoming DPS vs tank will determine how well you survive inattention. (Which is unfortunate, but yeah happens to me too)

In that regard, rail fits are better than blaster fits because with a blaster fit you will inevitably be up and in the face of the NPCs - the closer you are to them generally the greater the incoming DPS (this is true for all ships, not just the proteus).

So... semi AFK proteus -> Rails. (Sorry don't have a fit for you I don't fly my proteus in the situations you've described).

But yea... I can see how the Proteus could survive an AFK pounding, barring your hitting all the wrong triggers say in the blockade or the assault where the incoming DPS can then become quite considerable. (Even then I think a well fit proteus would have a fighting chance, just not AFK)

just slap a cap stable tank on it that reps a lot and you're fine, same as any ship. if its c1/c2, i don't see the need to do this in a proteus.

this thread is silly.

It's probably not something that you're going to want to hear, but....Tengu.

Perfection is a dish best served like wasabi .

Thanks for the advice.

Cyniac - makes sense, at least I'm not failplanning.

Batelle - meant to beg for nerfbat to something to stem my endless flood of missioning tears - don't know what came over me.

Bumblefck - on the one hand, moist-palmed feelings of Tengu and Vindi lust, on the other, an all-Gallente skill history.

Lv4 Proteus loadouts usually get slammed on battleclinic, in fact I allow people to troll Lv4 proteus loadout threads because they are just that worthless.

Rail proteus are even worse.

Semi AKF denotes overtanked & cap stable, do that and you'll end up with a 600 million setup that puts out sub 400 DPS(wont break the tank of the highest bounty lv4 NPCs).

Just get a dominix if you're going to be sensible or rattlesnake if you want something shiny, both semi-afk superbly.

Very true - I spent an hour trying to fit a Proteus that would do exactly the same damage as my Myrm at exactly five times the price. I appreciate the fits on Battleclinic very much and I'm starting to realize that if there aren't any popular fits for doing X in ship Y, that might itself be a hint.
