[Proposal] Focused Defence

Okay this was an idea that came about when thinking up a way of making POS bashing a lil more interesting.

Defensive focusing basically means instead of having all your Shield/Armor resists in an even spread around your ship.. you can focus more of it towards a locked target or group of enemies

In the same way that u hear on sci fi series and films when the captain orders to increase power to forward shields, your ship focuses more of its defensive might towards agressors, albeit agressors that you designate in terms of locked targets.

Now i know that as such eve combat isnt impact related so fire direction isnt normally considered, but directional computations and placement are calculated for tracking values. As such i dont think this additional burden will add too much on normal combat to notice... although huge fights may notice a bit of a change.


The way i see it is as a module or set of modules. Low slot mod for armor and mid slot module for shield. you lock a target that is preferably in the direction from you where most of the DPS is going to come from. this module then reinforces the Defensive Resists towards that locked target at the expense of resists on the opposite side.
I would add that the mod should have a tracking speed as its an active tracking module and so that theres tactical advantages to getting high traversal over a target using this mod.
This mod should also have a long cycle time that doesnt auto deactivate part way through the cycle if the ship goes into warp. This is in order for gangs to take advantage of the lesser shielded more vulnerable areas before a ship can re-lock onto ships landing on grid to re-focus their defences. Warping to an on grid object shouldnt auto deactivate the mod half way through the cycle specifically to abuse it either.

Hopefully this mod would put pressure into more tactical movement in gang and fleet warfare other than getting to optimal, sticking with the fleet, and getting on top of another fleets logistics. If you can get the drop on an engaged fleet with a warp in behind them and their engaged targets, you can land and kill quicker using tactical placement.

it would also mean that a fleet can have the option of using a focused defence mod or not.
