Good Morning All,

Currently I run only windows for all my applications and I am thinking of switching to a Linux based distro.

What I am asking can you a recommend a distro and how do I go about installing eve?

Thanks

Ubuntu+WINE is a good choice: the freedoms of linux without (most) of its hassles. I hope you have an nvidia card, and you should be fine with the official binary drivers.

Additionally, many users here in this subforum use it, in many variants, so you could get help in case your (eventual) problem is a known one.

Why Nvidia?
Is there something special about using Nvidia cards.
I only got an ATI...

The reliability and feature richness of nvidia drivers is at present still ahead of what ati drivers can provide. Even if open source drivers are doing great progresses with both brands, the native binary ones are still the way to go.

It has nothing to do with the actual quality of video cards, only about software support: nvidia under linux enjoys a better overall experience.

NVIDIA cards have better Linux drivers, but there a lots of people using ATI cards.

Screw Ubuntu. Most popular things rarely are the really good ones. That's right about ubuntu.
Though, maybe it's a matter of tastes.

As others have said, start with Ubuntu or an Ubuntu based distro. Then when you got the hang on Linux you can always move to another if you feel the need.

I've heard good things about Mint, though I'm finding Debian more to my tastes (caveat: I'm a grumpy old CLI Unix user).
