Looking for a place to set up base for a bit

Okay so I have finished the tutorials, finished the career agent missions and completed the sisters of Eve arc. I don't quite have a cruiser yet but eventually.

What I am wondering is how I go about finding a solar system to call my home base for a bit. I will be doing some missions, maybe do some scanning with probes, not likely I will do any mining but who knows. But I am at a loss as to how to go about picking an area to go to. I want to stay in Minmatar space but that is really the only thing I am sure about.

Do I look for a solar system with a lot of level 1 and 2 agents for my missions I will do? Do I just randomly pick a solar system in high sec?

I think my concern is that there might be more to picking a place to start my career, outside of tutorials, that I am just not aware of. Or is it really just as simple as randomly choosing a solar system? That is one of the biggest things about Eve that I both love and hate, not knowing what I don't know so unable to make an informed decision...hehehe.

Any help or suggestions would be great, even if it is just "yeah go pick a planet".

Its a tough question...

Most people will base them selfes close to their corporation HQ but your also in a stituation where your still grinding standings for your missions. Your best best is to find a system that is a few jumps away from the trade hubs (in your case Rens and Hek) since there are plenty of can flippers and ninja salvagers in these areas.

You should base your self on the fact that you have to move every time you go to a higher level agent unless you find a system where you have several of them (like lvl 2,3 and 4 agents that are just in different stations).

Also dont run missions to close to low sec until you feel a bit more comfterbale and you feel you can defend your self. Many of the missions will take you several jumps away and many of these can be into low sec, thus there is a high risk you will find your self stuck, get blown up with your mission item or simply realize that the system is camped and you see no way to get trough and have to cancel your mission (which will cause you to loose standing),or sit and wait them out which can take hours.

Also keep in mind that you can decline a mission every 4(?) hours without loosing sec status,so if you have a mission that takes you into low sec you can decline it and cross your fingers that the next one wont go there. Because of things like this its also nice to know that you have other agents close by or preferably in the same system that you can work for.

Hope this helped Smile

Good info posted above.

Just wanted to add that you don't have to have just one 'Base Of Operation' set up. You could make the Trade hub your primary holding base and have various other secondary base's set up elsewhere. Then once a month or every 2 months, spend a little bit of time and collect up all the loot from the secondary base's and haul everything to the primary base in the trade hub.

Agree, most people who join a player-corporation will move closer to the main base of operations of that corporation as it then becomes easier to do stuff together.

If you don't want to join a player corp or you don't mind to do a couple jumps to join any corp operation (4 jumps only take like 3 - 5 minutes to move your ship there) your 'home' system is up to you.

As you want to be a mission runner as your main profession I would suggest you move to a system that has a couple of agents for the NPC Corp(s) you like to run you missions for. Don't just look at level 1 and 2 agents for that by the way, you will outgrow those quite easily so you also should look where their level 3 and 4 agents are located.

A nice out of game tool for this is www.eve-agents.com
In there you can look up any agent there is in EVE, so you can look where most of your NPC Corp(s) agents are located and move closer too them.

On a side note, the system you're are based out of is usually called your home system. But if you look at your character sheet it also says Home system (or home station) but this refers to where your medical clone is located, you can change this by moving your medical clone. You can move a clone to a station without a cloning facility but I highly discourage you to do so for 1 reason: If you ever get podded in EVE (and it will happen at one point) you loose your actual up-to-date clone for a basic 900.000 SP clone, the first thing you need to do is upgrade it again. If you moved your clone to a station without a cloning facility means you have to undock and move to one that has it. If you get podded again during this time you will loose some skillpoints in 1 skill. So best to avoid this and always keep your clone at a station with facility to directly update it if you get podded. (Yes, this actually happened to me in the past and I lost the ability to fly one of the few ships I had left in my possession so I was stuck for about 5 days till I could do anything in EVE again).
