Switch from Mining to Gang PVP - Some Hints needed

So I've decided I spent enough time in wormholes farming ladar/ice/asteroids. Have NEVER fought anything except for lvl2 missions in a Drake. When we fought in our WH I only salvaged. Have some industrial and scanning skills too and hauled POS fuel & stuff.

THIS IS GOING TO STOP NOW ... well at least I hope so.

Some questions come to mind:

1) What should I be skilling with gang PVP as a long term goal?
2) Gunnery or Missiles?
3) Amarr, Caldari oder Minmatar (I dont like Gallente...)?
4) What kind of Gunnery skills? (I assume Gunnery is better for pvp)
5) What kind of ship should I train for?

ISK aint a problem, we made tons of cash in the WH. Experience and knowledge are a big problem. Any hints much appreciated :)

Thanks and fly safe!

1) Tech 2/3 Cruiser, maybe a Battleship, depends on the gangsize
2) Gunnery will help you on more ships
3) All, but starting with Amarr or Minmatar is a good idea.
4) Small and Medium Tech 2 and all the support skills e.g. Trajectory Analyses, Rapid Firing etc.
5) What you want to fly, really, nearly every tech 2 ship is good in the right gang.

I will get all the skills to make good use of a Zealot then. Boring times incoming, evemon is talking about 2 months of skilling Shocked
2 additional months of Level 2 missions in my Drake. Only suicide is more fun Cool

I would recommend to start in frigates. That way you can get into PvP without wasting tons of ISK on expensive ships. Just get yourself a bunch of Rifters (or whatever t1 frig you prefer), jump into a nearby low-sec system and get some blood on your guns.

There are some excellent guides to get you started with PvP. I would recommend Wensley's Rifter Guide and Skira Ranos' Beginner's Guide to Piracy. Plus the "Punisher Plan" is always a good read (start at the beginning).

Even though those guides are mostly focused on piracy, they should still work for other types of PvP.

There are very few situations in which a battlecruiser isn't the best tool for the job.

Indeed, BCs are great for gangs. To get started with PvP though, frigs are much less likely to get caught by gate camps.

That's only an issue if he intends to operate in an environment where gatecamps are a problem which is basically either lowsec or nullsec. In wormhole space or highsec random camps are a non-issue.

Thank you all so far.

Im currently thinking about Rifter => Harbinger => Zealot. Training some gunnery secondary skills, active tanking and energy management skills seems to be a good idea for all three ships. Since I already trained Minmatar Frigs 5 the Rifter wont be that much of a detour.

Lets go waste some Frigs, I prefer learning in cheap ships :)

A zealot is not a step up from a harbinger, if you want to fly a cruiser sized laser ship that is better than a harbinger go for a legion.

If you are willing to train missile skills too the sacrilege is a much more versatile HAC than the zealot.

OK I'll keep that in mind while hoping to find a PvP corp before I maxed all those skills P
