Tomorrow I will finally be able to fly the golem, now having watched quite a few youtube vids of players using the golem for lvl4 missions, I am intrigued why they always stack the missile launchers in the HUD.

Theres four missile launchers , and when you stack them, you can only fire one at a time, whats the point of having four launchers, if your only firing one at a time??

when you stack you fire all at once. you only see one torpedo in the firering animation

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Grouped or stacked guns/launchers effectively add the damge output of the modules together.
A golem with stacked launchers may look like it's only firing one torpedo but when that torpedo hits you find out that it's doing 4x the damage a single torpedo does.

Stacking weapons doesn't do anything to their damage output, it just makes module management much easier (and slightly reduces server load on CCPs end).

The single torpedo animation I guess is the confusing part, thanks for clearing that up.

This.

A Golem is a very high cost and high maintenance mission ship compared to others.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know. What?

Although perhaps somewhat inelegantly, the other posters are trying to tell you that you might be putting the cart in front of the horse. Its a very common problem in EVE that players can pilot a ship, but can't really pilot it. There's a good chance that you might come to regret laying out the ISK for a Marauder and I'd recommend you taking another look at it. You really don't need anything more than a Drake to successfully run LVL 4 missions. In fact I've never used any other ship except a Drake to run my LVL 4's in. And I use a Drake out in Null for ratting as well, though I'm going to start using a Tengu soon. If you feel you need something bigger than a Drake, I'd say look at a Raven if you are set on not using a Drake.

But which ever ship you choose, don't mistake being able to pilot it with being able to actually fly it. Make sure you learn and skill up those supporting skills.
