CRC Error for installation copied from Windows

Running: Ubuntu 10.04 + ATI binary drivers

I keep getting the above error after getting the splash screen. Running repair.exe results in "Sharing Violation" on ExeFile.exe error at stage 7/7. I do not see any disk failure/SMART message in logs.

Has there been any change in the architecture that prevents simple installation copy from Windows machine?

I do not want to redownload the entire thing as I am in a broadband challenged location. Sad

PS: the Windows installation plays just fine
