Going NUCLEAR

I'll be working on R&D agents, and just would like to clear up a couple of things;

1) Why would I research Nuclear Physics past lvl 1, is it extra reseach points?

2) If I only want to sell the datacore, I dont need to train Laboratory Operation & Research at all do I?

Thank you for any feedback.

1. Higher levels of the science skill = more research points.

2. Those skills do not affect datacore farming at all

Research V is required for Research Project Management, which allows you to use more R&D agents at a time. Might be worth it if you really want to focus on R&D.

You need for example skill level 3 in the science skill (nuclear physics etc) to access level 3 agents

Yeah, to get the full 6 agents is quite a bit of training time, but it's a huge upgrade compared to starting out with level 1 and one agent.

I've heard conflicting reports on that within the past few months. Some say "level 1 is all you need, but you'd be a fool not to train it to IV" - others are saying that you need the identical level in the datacore science skill to match the agent's level.

It is a bit unclear and might even be agent related as R&D agents are a bit... wonky. In my experience though all you need is lvl 1 in a skill to work with any level agent, so put me in the "Level 1 is all you need, but you'd be a fool not to train it to IV" crowd (actually I trained mine to V even).

You need the science skill at the level of the agent you want to use, i.e. rocket science IV to use lvl IV agents. Negotiations also effects RP gained but I'm unsure on the exact rate.

And actually the evelopedia article is so outdated that it confuses the whole issue also, some of the R&D agents mentioned there, dont even exist anymore What?

No you don't.

I have a level 4 R&D Agend working for me with just level 3 in the researched skill.

Level 1 is indeed enough, but you will want more for more iskies, as the level goes directly into the formula.

As far as I know, the formular is accurate.

Connections no longer has an effect on the RP/day. At least, not corporate standing (NPC corp -> you). I have not had time to test whether grinding up personal standing with the agent (agent -> you) has an effect.

Negotiations does have an effect (tested that myself).

Here is what I see with two of my agents. Both of them are level 4, belong to the same corp and are doing the same research. The only differences are one is in High Sec, one is in Low Sec and personal standings with each one.

High Sec - Standings: 5.39, RP/Day: 96.25
Low Sec - Standings: 2.02, RP/Day: 94.10

That is with Negotiation and Connections trained to level 5.

I trained Plasma Physics to rank 3 yesterday and was able to use a level 4 agent as soon as rank 1 was finished. It seems standings are all that matter.

This is correct.
Once you have the personal standings to use the agent, the only thing the Science skills (e.g. Plasma Physics, Nuclear, etc.) give you is an increase in datacore RP/day.

Happy Researching :)
