Fiction Friday is a new regular feature of the EVE Online community team. Every two weeks we will select an article from EVElopedia Fiction Portal and talk about the New Eden lore and how it applies to the game. Of course, everyone is welcome to share their own knowledge on the subject as well!

Ship Technology

Spaceships are the heart and soul of New Eden. Small and nimble frigates, sturdy industrials, awe-inspiring dreadnoughts and majestic titans – each of them has their own specific design, purpose and use. Although the spaceship technology has been around for hundreds of years, the capsuleer technology -- the scientific advancement that lies at the core of every player-piloted ship – is relatively new.

Since the beginning of the capsuleer age, ship technology has been evolving quite rapidly. Modern spaceships in New Eden are able to withstand and maintain immense speeds, rush down warp tunnels, disappear through wormholes, and be shunted through stargates. Most of them are developed with warfare in mind, and can be equipped with a variety of offensive and defensive modules.

However, despite what some may claim, war is not the sole occupation of spaceship captains. Some ships are designed to carry out more peaceful tasks - mining barges and exhumers extract useful minerals from asteroid fields, and industrial ships and freighters carry huge amounts of cargo across vast distances.

I'd counter that these aren't exactly "peaceful" endeavours ... especially once you consider that it takes a full freighter (and then some) worth of minerals to build a dreadnought...

Great list of reading material though. Keep it up Spitfire and community team Cool

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Hate to be that guy but...broken link, first sentence of the "capsule" article, where it should link to Jovians.

I really like the idea of Fiction Friday! It would be nice if it sometimes included NEW additions to the lore as well, little details not previous filled in etc.

EDIT: And siege modules only last five minutes now...ok I'm done nitpicking

Good catch, thanks!

That's pretty much the plan, yes. It's only the second "installment" in the series, so let us build some momentum first. Smile I'm happy to do this every Friday if there's enough interest.

Dangit now I have to go in and make changes to wiki again Uhg >-< Trying to merge the frigate pages for a while now.

Also any chance we can get the rookie frigates to show up on the wiki they're currenlty not dumped in.

I'll ask the web team on Monday to look into it.
