Hi,

Hopefully you lovely people out there will be able to answer a couple of questions as, after trawling the web I still didn't find a definative answer.

1st, is it legitimate for a Corp we war Dec'd corp to join an alliance then surrender a day later before leaving the alliance again?

Not that I'm overly bothered, made it cheaper for us.

2nd, I had the notification mail saying they (the individual corp) surrender. I thought they had to do this, with me (CEO) in a station as I was offline when it went through? I may have misread this but I though I had to accept their surrender?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

when they joined the alliance, your war-dec automatically transferred to the alliance, but when they later left that same alliance it automatically drops the war-dec to the corp that left. Because at this point you're at war with the alliance now, and not that individual corp.

now keep in mind, there is nothing stopping you from declaring war on that same corp again. In fact, if you want to keep fighting them you have to.

Just don't forget to retract the war against the dummy alliance, or else you will have to pay the 50 mil. (although it might be worth keeping it up in case they try to use the same alliance to dodge you again)

Thanks for the reply.

I was under the impression this was against the rules. Can someone clarify if I should petition this?

nope, its perfectly legit. In fact, when it comes to war tactics in eve, there are very few exploitable actions.

There was a dev post a long while back stating that this was an exploit, which can be found here. However, I have heard a lot of people mention recently that petitions on this are getting turned down by GMs.

I thought I'd hear of it being an exploit.

If it persists then I will petition and post the result here.

It's an exploit as per the linked page. They never did "fix" this, however.

It is also not allowed to leave an alliance to "save" a POS that is in reinforced.

Aye, we submitted such a petition a while back, it was turned down so we then linked that URL. After that the GM said they'd look into it if they did it again, fortunately they didn't do it again so I'm unsure as to whether or not the GM would have eventually taken action.

The decision has been made to lift those restrictions that affect war declarations, thereby opening up ways for corporations to avoid unwanted wars via methods that were previously considered exploits of game mechanics.

In other words:
If you can leave or declare a war, raise the costs for other entities to declare one to you or do any other war related things within current normal game mechanics, you may do so without having to keep other rules in mind.

Basically it was an exploit, but it's not any more.

I'd read it more as, it's still an exploit, but the GMs are no longer interested in doing their jobs.

That's funny I read it more as permission to gleefully use 'creative manipulation of game mechanics' to actually avoid griefing. Of course, like everything it's a two edged sword.
