Constantly freezing up

For me lately the freezing has been 90% linked to DT. It is always severe right after DT and usually disappears in 20min-2h after DT. Not logging off helps to prevent 8% of the remaining freezings. But its not linked to any action, sometimes you cant even warp out of a system as you get freeze during warp (or just sitting in station).

Did you know that explorations sites despawn when you warp out? Well that is exactly what happens when your client freeze and you have to force quit. Yeah, I am mad. The least you can do is give us mac users a discount until you have fixed your game.

Wow, it's been a while since I've read the Mac forums.. (been on bootcamp where I have 0 problems)

There is a simple solution folks.. sadly. Which is get a copy of windows and play EVE on bootcamp. Parallels or similar has no point as it drags your machines performance down.. just as cider is doing because its effectively porting EVE Win to your Mac.

If you've had enough of the problems with EVE on Mac... just do yourself a huge favour and install bootcamp.

Mine non-specialist opinion is that it is something that is related to interaction with server. If the cause is not found, imagine if the freezing issue hits Eve Windows version with the next expansion. HOW MANY subscriptions would be lost then? If you think it just can't happen, spend a little time reading on the Internet about Battlefield 3, which was launched about the same time as Crucible and received massive reports of exactly the same freezings in both PC and console versions.

As the freezing issue is introduced in Eve, I would say that hitting Windows client too is quite possible.

After generating crash reports through cider, one can not help but to notice the last lines being related to a lost of sync between one thread and the "display" whatever thread / kernel module / driver that thing is.

That is why the character continues to be logged in game, but nothing updates anymore. If you want, there are instructions on how to create those cider logs in this thread, post by a Developer. If not, just look back a few posts and you'll see a post I did with those lines.

It would be very very helpful if more people could do the same to help them narrow down the problem. In my case, I could not map any way to reproduce it, or when it happens. I couldn't even open a petition using the mac client, just trying to do so and I had a screen freeze.

Do what they say, it is incredibly easy, make a bug report and hope for the best.

I'm only sad that by the time of writing this, the bug report I did several days ago on Feb 2nd is still "Not Filtered" nor it has received any updates from CCP so far.

But as you probably already expect.. if this freezing issue was to hit windows... it would be reverted/patched out within about 6-12 hours.

Whereas due to the emulation that goes on in cider; A: it's a lot harder to pinpoint the issue, B: less players on OSX, so less of a concern for CCP I'd think. So.. I took matters into my own hands instead of complaining about the the problem.. (which wasn't being solved) I solved the problems by switching to Bootcamp. And now save myself a daily headache.

I keep trying out the Mac client after a large patch to see what's changed, but due to the game just running a lot smoother under windows I find myself holding the Option key after a restart to select Windows pretty damned fast.

For reference.. on MacOSX.. I cannot walk in CQ without turning graphics all the way down.
On Windows however.. with Max settings, I can run CQ in full graphics smooth as a baby.

OSX isn't the problem, your hardware isn't the problem. Emulating EVE to run on OSX rather than getting a dedicated client is the problem.

I do have Bootcamp and I do have Windows, but I find it stupid to own a Mac machine just to log in Windows all the time. I suppose you did not buy yours if you prefer not to use all your OSX software and hardware, such as magic mouse that does not work under Windows, fans that do not work (you are not afraid to fry your mac?), ect.

And most importantly, when I occasionally log in Windows I find there LOTS OF OTHER cool new games to play instead of Eve online.

I'm happy too :) and I've found that paracetamol works better to solve the headache when getting a headache operation windows. Than the headache from getting my ships blown up during crashes on OSX :<

I completely agree. It's stupid that we need to do this. But I've accepted I'll just have to do it to actually enjoy playing EVE.
It's not how it should be, but its definitely a "FIX" which shouldn't simply be disregarded because someone doesn't like windows. And thats coming from me who is a terrible apple fanatic.. Roll

I'm not sure why you have this issue, did you install all the drivers from the disk you created during bootcamp setup? I haven'
t tested my magic mouse (I prefer my Razer Naga) but my fans work (increase and decrease) just fine on both my 17" macbook and the 27" imac. If I felt I had a choice I would definitely stay on OSX. I bought a mac because I hate windows and prefer OSX.

Still freezing but nowadays it sometimes freeze so hard that character loggs out. It also seems like crashing to desktop has become more common.

If any devs are reading this, i might have a clue how to narrow it down.

I switched to windows client on parallels, but with the same hardware i see somewhat similar behavior. With the same frequency as mac crashes used to happen, i get these glitches where the client skips ahead about 2 seconds - if you are in warp or moving around, it just paints entire grid as its few seconds later. The difference with windows is, it recovers as soon as that time passes. Its some sort of weird desync to the future.

It might be an issue in original client, not whatever transgaming does when they port it, so maybe if you can find it in windows code, it could give some clues to as why mac client seems to freeze in that situation.

Latest build of Eve Online, what happens to me I run about on a mission, then while warping to a gate or otherwise engaged in combat with pirate npc, my game just actively freezes. By this i mean i can move the mouse and such, but trying to open cargo etc does nothing and my repper and guns act like normal even though the chat tab is frozen in corp chat.

Ebay, Craigslist, Amazon, or anywhere else that sells them. MS still makes and sells XP.
