Posting in the hope for a candidacy view on the following: Bounty Hunting

Having played other games that had excellent and well thought out bounty systems (such as the recently deceased Star Wars Galaxies), and having started my life in EVE as a smuggler (another system that needs some love to go along with bounty hunting), I would definitely want to make sure that a system was implemented for this that could not be easily abused, held player interest over time, was a sufficient time sink, and stayed true to the vision and lore of EVE Online.

Those are my opinions.

Having said that, I'm not ready to lobby for any idea to be considered or not. I simply want to make sure that any ideas brought to the CSM/CCP table are given due diligence.

For me it's about the how for any community idea, not the what.

There are many good ideas out there. If the CSM decides to lobby CCP on certain ideas, I want to make sure we have all our ducks in a row.

ty, I understand your concerns. My motivations at this stage are not looking for a "champion" however or looking for a way to simply avoid CSM proccesses, just collecting opinions and raising awareness towards the issue.

Will quote the relevant attributable material in the linked thread.

Nothing against you personally, Roc, but all I see is :wordswordswords: about how you will improve the CSM and make it more honest and transparent and how you'll bring people's ideas together, etc etc etc.

It's all very nicely worded, idealist, political non-speak. You aren't going to get any votes from people other than your fans and friends without concrete ideas, propositions and goals.

What is your opinion on 0.0 Sov mechanics?
What is your opinion on the state of risk/reward in lowsec?
What is your opinion on using Faction Warfare to test 0.0 Sov mechanics?
What is your opinion on botting?
What is your opinion on high-sec wardec mechanics?

Those are some very basic questions you could try answering. It's dangerous voting for a candidate when you don't know what he will do if elected, because no matter how much you say "I'm for the people and I'm for supporting the people's ideas and all styles of gameplay" you will have personal biases towards aspects of the game which affect you. That is a simple fact of human nature.

At the moment There's several candidates in the pool that have less than the 100 likes.

Here's an idea.

To encourage a wide and representative shortlist and help ourselves a little into the bargain, why don't we like each other publicly with a post in each other's election post thread, and encourage others via our own posts to like the members of the sub-100 group.

This way we might all make the shortlist.

Let me know what you think about this.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. When I die, all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

Hey Roc, just FYI, I'm going to try to get The Revenant Order to back you.

And if you'd like, take a look at this: Support Tug

Just an idea if you need something else to work with. Anything you need help on, give me a shout and I'll do my best. You have my e-mail.

You presence in New Eden has been noticed over the years, even for a small time CEO like myself. I want my CSM Spokesman to be a steady factor in the game. Your words are like music to my ears and your actions to the community have been selfless in the past. Sadly I couldn't enjoy them myself, but it does tell a great deal of someone that wishes to serve the community.

Therefore I believe your words are true and will consider my vote.

Will you consider making a campaign video like some of the other candidates? I recently learned it seems to be a make or break situation. Where some of them already wasted the chance for me even considering a vote, for presenting themselves like a power-hungry megalomaniac with a silly hats, others make a good impression and thus decent chance.

I am pleased with your candidacy and I'm look forward for your campaign video. You have been a mystery-blog for too long in my experience.

No offence taken. You are right, it is political non-speak, and I'll tell you why. My views may not be your views. But I'm sure we can agree that things need to be implemented in a way that brings balance to a new/revised system, and considers all stakeholders before just being thrown into the game.

I didn't say I was out to improve the CSM, making it more honest and transparent, nor how I would bring people's ideas together, blah, blah, blah.

Let me be clear again. I'm the guy that sees all the flaws and can help present solutions. I am a team player. I would be one voice on the CSM. My intention is not to be THE voice on the CSM (that position is already taken).

Let me answer your simple questions:

What is your opinion on 0.0 Sov mechanics?
I think there are only three reasons why this issue has been around as long as it has: priority, lack of the right solution, lack of caring. My opinion is that this has been in CCP's face for ages, with incredible amounts of conversation and ideas from CSMs past and present, and yet here you are, as a fellow player, still asking about it. That tells me the how needs help. That tells me this issue needs Roc.

What is your opinion on the state of risk/reward in lowsec?
This is also a topic that has been around for years, and receives the same answer as above.

What is your opinion on using Faction Warfare to test 0.0 Sov mechanics?
That is an interesting and new spin on the question of Factional Warfare. Thank you for that. As a retired Matar Colonel, this topic is dear to my heart and I think about it often. I think Factional Warfare could be a test bed for many things, like Dynamic Landscapes, and even including testing sov mechanics. War has an ever changing face and my hope would be the military pilots would welcome any positive change at this point. Again, there's the qualifier; positive change. Whatever the implementation would be, it has to be right. The how wins again.

What is your opinion on botting?
Botting is bad.

What is your opinion on high-sec wardec mechanics?
Does it ever make you wonder why the same hot topics come up every election? If CCP and the CSMs are doing it right, if they have the "how" sorted out, then why do these same issues rise to the surface every single time? Are they not listening? Are they not representing the players' best interests?

I believe both CCP and CSM try to represent the best interests of EVE Online.

Yet here we are again. Same topics. So my opinion? Same as always. The what has been debated to death. Time to focus on the how.

Thanks for the kind words.

I was actually just thinking on ways of campaigning more effectively. A campaign video may just fit the bill. When I ran last year for CSM 6, I was part of Candidate Panel podcasts and such, and wanted to do more, and different this time.

I'm thinking of doing a weekly #roctalk via Twitter to allow anyone some time to ask a question, get to know me, etc.

Thanks again for the ideas.

The whole CSM setup is about feedback and making the small changes that have a huge effect.

It is not a power struggle / dictatorship to force through 1 radical idea that will alienate 90% of players.

Good luck Roc, I work in a similar role and it can be quite a challenge stopping a strong willed group of people from tearing each other to shreads.

Maybe a CSM who is focused on the 'delivery' rather that the 'what' is the way forward.

Yeah, no one who isn't ******** is arguing that the CMS should be playing devs. ...

The csm is elected to represent the players. Now there are no limits to what they can represent the players on. But it usually deals with how the game is developed and designed.

Not to many csm candidates run on the platform that they will help ccp write better code, or help ccp write better advertisements. As players they primarilly value our input about the design and development of the game.

So yeah they are pretty much "playing devs." If CSM is not helping ccp develop and design the game they are pretty much deadwood.

Ah Lol I think this is good. Having somebody else with an equal ability for debate and communicates his thoughts quickly and clearly is much needed, as I hear The Mittani has a strange effect of persuasion toward what begins as opposing opinions with his Jedi mind trick powers. And the fact that Roc just enjoys to shoot opposing arguments for the sake of good discussion, not to mention being an active Role Player in the community adds another element to his candidacy.

I'm sure the Mittani would disagree on that. Smile
