Sentry Drones and Minmatar

For reference, my character is pure minmatar, focused solely on combat (both pve and pvp) and exploration. I will train only for subcaps except blackops.

Is there any situation I'm not aware of where sentry drones are worth training for ?

Thanks in advance.

Since the Phoon is the only subcap Min ship that can fit a full set of them, and Sentries generally go against the speed that Minmatar ships typically favor, I'm going to guess that they probably wouldn't be as helpful and the SP would be better spent elsewhere.

The only use I've heard of (other than the Phoon example mentioned) is something like a Mach with a set of anti-Falcon sentry drones.

There are situations where you use sentry drones in pvp, like a maelstrom on a POS bash. Other then that its specific pve stuff, like anom ratting etc. At least get the T1s.

And btw, Black Ops are also subcaps.

as the otthers already said the phoon is the only ship that can field a full set of sentry and most of the time you go close and personal with that ship so heavys are better.

the only use for sentry is for pve situations

Sentries (especially T2s) are exceptionally good for PVE and very useful in PVP in my experience. It depends a little on your play style. If you are likely to be in BS fleets a lot then a flight of sentries can be useful. If you are into frigates then you will clearly not benefit from them.

She knows that Black Ops are subcaps, wet noodle, she was saying she'll train for all subcaps except Black Ops.

Sentries have more damage potential because they have damage rigs available and doesn't have to travel to target before applying dps... For minmatar skirmish pvp I wouldn't bother with them much though.

Structure shooting notwithstanding, so far I've only flown one ship that seems like it works better with sentries than heavy drones, and that is the Dominix (possibly the Rattlesnake, but I haven't flown one). Nothing loves to sit on its fat ass and turkey shoot so much as that boat. If you need even an iota of mobility (which you will, flying Minmatar), sentry drones will hold you back.

On a somewhat related note, WTB space tugboat to haul my Domi around Lol

Sentries make for a fun gate camp. Have every ship capable of using them launch some, spread them out around the gate, and assist them all to something with high scan res.
