get yourself a fast ship [dramiel (?473 base, 3 rigs, 3 lows) or republic fleet firetail (410 base, 3 rigs, 3 lows) or stileto (435, 2, 3) or claw (475, 2, 4)] and go play around with speed.

IIRC a couple years ago we were being taunted at our nulslec gatecamps by dramiels pottering along at 10km/s. Not sure how fast they manage nowadays.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

39.2km/s overheated with full snakes, speed implants, Quafe Zero, in a C6 Black Hole WH, with a mindlinked all 5 Loki booster with the T2 ganglink. Cap stable.

Faster is possible if you don't worry about cap stability IIRC. But you can't count on cap xfers when you're going at that speed, lol, it takes you less than 4s to fly completely across a all Vs Logi's cap transfer range, and it'll take him 2.6s to lock you without SeBos.

I'd actually looked at it previously. With a similar fit (though it needs a COSMOS MWD instead of DED). It gets 52.2km/s with heat and 35.3 without. However it only has 57s of cap life. It's technically faster, but it doesn't have the cap life to actually keep going.

The INS can sustainably (without heat) go 26.5km/s, wheras the Claw can only sustainably go (without heat) ~12km/s on average (35km/s for 1 min, and then 1.5km/s for 2 min while the cap recharges). In a 50km sprint, the Claw wins, in a 1AU marathon, the INS wins (and is much easier to fly since the MWD stays on, lol).

I ran some numbers in my head quick. It looks like for the first 1:30, the Claw will be ahead due to the extra speed. But by 1:30 the INS will take the lead while the Claw is recharging its cap and have enough time to take a more than sufficient lead that the Claw can't catch up. Also, by 1:30 in, the race would have covered roughly 2.25M km, or about 0.015 (1/66) AU.

Disclaimer: this doesn't take into account acceleration or cap micromanagement due to MWD cycling, since it's more thinking than I feel like doing after 1AM, especially with almost all of the math in my head.

It's simply not as fast as the Claw when fit with a 10MN MWD though. It tops out at 33.6km/s (49.7km/s heated) to the Claw's 35.3km/s (52.2km/s heated). And the Ares can only get 46s of cap life out of it (with nearly 3 min to recharge that cap) due to having no grid whatsoever for a cap recharger.
