I'm failing - Mountains to Molehills 1 of 10

Here's a screenshot as a visual aid: http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii229/EntropyUnlimited/20120212231527.jpg

I'm supposed to mine 999 units of Veldspar and return it to the agent. I have 1,200 Veldspar in my Cargo Hold and over 2,000 units in my Items.

Bring Item Objective shows Drop-off Location and Item have green checks.
Objective Location still shows a yellow circle. Did I somehow manage to mine in the wrong location?

I expect I'm doing something dumb, but I don't know what it is. Help!

To answer my own question, yes, I did mine from the wrong location. When I first left dock after accepting the mission a tutorial popped up and told me to right click and then warp to an asteroid field to mine. I did that instead of using Agent Missions in the context menu.

+1 Derp for me. Oops

Interesting bug, might explain why so many go to mine in wrong location.

Check what you got is called just ''Veldspar'' and not something like ''Concentrated Veldspar'' or something like that, i made that mistake yesterday and took me a bit of head scratching to figure out what i'd done wrong lol.

If it is any consolation, I did the exact same thing when I was playing with an alt not too long ago.

I've been playing EVE for 3 years now.

I met a 3 hour old player in lowsec today who said the tutorial sent him there :/

Derp, on the other hand, I made the same mistake couple of time when I started playing EVE.

For future reference, you can easily see if you did the mission correct if all objectives have a green tick mark in front of them.

It seems that this is actually a very common mistake made by new players. Any other MMO wouldn't care where you get the ore from, but here it has to be that specific little site. So don't feel bad for mining from the wrong belt. I did that dozens of times in the beginning.

On a side note, CCP really ought to make the mission description a bit more specific. How hard can it be to add a line that says "Fly out to the bookmark provided by your agent and mine the ore from the asteroid." Really. How hard would that be since they haven't done it yet?

Unless CCP changed that, there IS at least one mission in the tutorial where the source of the minerals doesn´t matter, though I vaguely recall it is another mineral.

There are tutorial missions, where agent is telling you about a specific bookmark that you need to use in order to accomplish the mission.

Yes, there is. I don't remember which one was it exactly, but in description agent clearly states "I don't care where you get it from, just bring it to me or I will kill your hamster".

I'm flying to my starter system quite often (I like people living there) and many new players have a problem with this particular mission. They don't know how to mine or they don't know how to warp at location or they mine veldspar on a regular belt and cannot finish the mission. Fortunately, people on local are very patient and helpful.

To make matters worse, when you finally get to right location, only asteroid you see is giant hollow asteroid which can't be mined... The much smaller minable asteroid is farther and not immediately visible ....

I think the game gives you a hint about showing asteroids in overview then, but I may be wrong... or maybe it was a Large Unpronounceable Structure...
Anyway, tutorial missions could be better. On the other hand, troubles with those missions are forcing new players to try very important aspect of EVE - player interaction. Problems? Put a question at Rookie Help Channel or local, talk to people, make friends and enemies, learn russian to understand what the hell are they saying and such.

As far as I recall, in the tutorial missions that require you to mine at a specific site the agents clearly state they have provided a bookmark and instruct the player to go to it to carry out the mission.

Unless, of course, you get advised to actually go out looking for an Omber or whatever belt and mine that stuff instead of buying it from the market because, you know, minerals in belts are actually free......
