Although I agree with the idea that it would suck to have these play every single time you enter a station, having them play once (with an option to disable all cutscenes for vets in settings) what be very cool.

It'l help pull in new players into the type of universe Eve is, and show off just how fancy your game engine is... (as you wouldn't just do pre-rendered cut-scenes would you? P) otherwise I'm sure your motion graphics team would love to have a crack at it.

Maybe 4 cut scenes for when a pilot first:
Undocks,
Docks,
Is podded and revived
Activates a new ship (thats not the newb ship)

If the player wanted to see these cut scenes again, they'd just reset the cut-scene settings to view during the next event.

Thoughts?

Do you know how excruciating long it takes to develop a high quality CGI scene that is a scant few seconds long?

Do you really think its wise that valuable developer time should be spent on CGI scenes that would skipped almost immediately?

Why would a developer be spendig time doing cgi?
This isn't a high priority thing hoever between all the tools the ccp uses to do trailers and what ever additional functionality there is in the incarna client, something could be done that I think would add value to the NPE as well as the overal brand

Proposed something similar myself not long after CQ was released, just a similar animation of walking down the stairs, into the pod, then flying up to the ship, plugging in, powering up then undocking for the entire un/docking process

The type of player that is drawn to a fancy 10 second cut scene typically won't have the attention span for a game like Eve. Subscription retention would be minimal for those folks. They're gonna gravitate to solo play games in the long term. Just saying. It'd be a money and manpower sink for CCP.

Wait a minute, what? People that have the patience to view a 10 second cut-scene... DON'T have an attention span?

You want to see people with no attention span, go talk to the hardcore pew-pew players that only know Spaceships.

No need for cut scenes really. Only thing I'd support would be camera flights between transitions while the next environment loads in the background. Like a flight from the in space camera position and angle while docking into the docking portion of the station, a flight from the hangar camera view into the CQ up to the character and the other way around.

This would be still immersive and less disruptive than cut scenes, while still covering up the seams between environments.

As long as the marketing guys do them, that's fine. Those guys are useless anyway.

I actually like this idea and feel it would be kinda neat to see my pod getting installed inside my Vindicator ;)
I also feel that this might actually make more new players be able to get a feel for the game etc.
Might be that it takes a long time and I know a big group of people that would just skip theese, however I think this might be a good idea actually

Cant see the point of something that you would see once then turn it off. I would much rather the time and effort be spent actually improving CQ and Incarna so we go wow that's cool with the actual game-play on offer with stuff we want to see and do more than once rather than cut scenes.

Start wide, expand further, and never look back

I like this, since getting podded means your back in station between 1 and 50 jumps of where you where it wouldn't delay your response time significantly. A sort of slow motion playback of the engine during your death (cam following the last shot or missile that killed you)

Jump clones also could have an animation.

In general I wouldn't like cut scenes, but death and resurrection seem fitting events to focus on.

I think it's a good idea - in a way - and already said as much in my comments to Torfi's last Dev blog.

My personal thoughts on it are that it would be a better idea to incorporate these kinds of things into a single "updated" version of the EVE intro movie - the "Dare to be bold" one. It's badly in need of an update anyway, it's looking really dated. And with new ship textures and nebulas coming soon, it'd be a good opportunity to showcase EVE.

They wouldn't need to do any work at all, it's already been done in one of their trailers, the causality one ...

55 seconds in, they could use this scene.

This ^^

Don't really think we need cut-scenes at dock and undock, etc. But it would be cool to have a cut-scene between hangar view and CQ since we will have the option to board and deboard our ships soon. I do like the idea of disabling the feature at your discretion though.
