Can't decide on rails for a PVE Megathron

I want to upgrade the rails on my Mega for better stuff (currently on 350mm Protos). However, after putting all the options on the table I can't decide on any of them. Here is my setup:

[High-Slots]
7x 350mm Protos
1x Drone Link Augmentor I

[Med-Slots]
1x Tracking Computer II
3x Cap Recharger II

[Low-Slots]
2x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
1x Large Armor Repairer II
4x Armor [TH/KI/EX/EM] Hardener II

And these are my options for upgrading those rails:

7x 425mm II: lower cost than Protos, higher damage thanks to specialization (DPS:485 & Volley:2717) but requires a pair of CPU implants for like 11m each (LP Store). Impossible to fit a Drone Link Augmentor. Capacitor: 5m, 59s

7x 425mm Protos: higher cost than T2 (like 20mil more), lower damage (DPS:449 & Volley:2515) but does not requiere any implants. Fits DLA. Capacitor: 8m, 29s

7x 350mm T2: lower cost than Protos, good damage thanks to specialization (DPS:461 & Volley:1976). Needs a pair of CPU implants if we want to fit a DLA. Capacitor: 6m, 21s

7x 350mm Protos (current): higher cost than T2, lowest damage (DPS:427 & Volley:1829), does not require any implants. Fits DLA. Capacitor: 9m, 10s

Which one would you chose?

What drones are you using?

425mm all the way.

You can use faction hardeners to get the extra cpu, the drone link is mostly only fit able with a medium rep and/or faction adaptive nano plates to further reduce the cpu for the tank.

Edit: You might consider sentrys, since they typically fit rail game play the most and help with the applied damage output.

^ this.

Faction hardners are not overly expensive due to no boost in tank just less cpu and the faction mag stabs are a good addition to pve anyways.

Sentries are good for traning for navy mega too as from memory you can then hold a full stack of sentries and lights for them annoying frigates.

What is a volley? Been playing over a year and just did a web search - is this just the best possible damage of all your grouped guns hitting first shot, or is this some type of skill, build, weapon type or talent?

A volley is what the guns will do in one shot. DPS is the average damage per second.

Ie. 10,000 Volley means you guns do 10k damage per shot. If the cyle time is 10seconds their dps is 1000 dmg/sec

Thank you! Did exactly that and I was able to fit the 7x 425mm II no problem.

A little bit expensive (armor hardeners) but totally worth it.

How do you have such low DPS? I can manage 600dps out of a basic megathron with t2 425's, with 2 t2 magstabs. Hell my kronos gets 750dps, without drones.

That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter used by carriers.

I have no idea, but with this setup and all skills at V (no hardwiring, no drones) EFT reports a maximum of 515 dps.

Wait, bro you mean you don't overheat your guns using Guristas antimatter in missions?!

This is EFT - get warrioring!

Oh and just to say - if you're looking to kit out a Megathron with rails and sentries, you might as well get a Domi. It will do more damage :)

the basic megathron 7x 425 t2, + 2x t2 mag stabs gets 503 base dps using standard antimatter, (skills all V no implants/hardwirings) *
change that to Fed navy AM and you get 579 dps *

(*Reload time is factored in so add 10 dps to the regular am and 13 to the fed navy)

Im betting that Alexa cotes has a rig on there or an implant that they've forgotten about.

as to the fitting..
When i was running missions in a megathron, (shortly replaced by a navy then a kronos) i found that i took a long time killing things, ran through a ton of ammo and generally didnt like it as much as my dominix .

however, 7x 425 rails, 1x tractor 3x cap rechargers 1x 100mn ab, 2x mag stabs , 2x2x hardners 1xLAR, 1x burst arator rig and 2x cap rigs

do make a nice ship. the navy version is nicer cause it has the drone bay for heavies or sentries and a flight of mediums (although i always did two flights of lights)

kronos though, is better

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

You really won't have much fun with a T2 fitted Mega in Missions. Can't compete with a Domi in that ship. If you really take it serious get at least a Deadspace rep. and fit 3 Magstabs, but don't expect too much off it.

It will get around 750 DPS compared to the 900 you can apply with a Domi.

Good thing is: If you're not into Drones, you don't need to skill those Sentries and stick with rails/ Blasters untill you can fly / afford a Vindi or Kronos.
