My next ship . . . .

I originally posted this in Missions forum, but perhaps it is better here!

So, im currently flying a decently equipped Coercer, have no trouble with Lv 1 missions and can complete Lv2 missions if i'm patient and careful.

I really want an Oracle, [which I know may not be the best ship out there but hey, I like the way it looks].

So, im guessing im going to have to get a Cruiser before I get to my Oracle.

Does that mean that as an Amarr Capsuleer I should get myself a Maller and continue on the Lv 2 missions up to the point I can afford my oracle? I'm tempted to get the Arbitrator only because its so different to what most Amarr ships are, but that means wasting precious skill time training up drones . . . . . .

Any suggestions? Opinons?

Thanks

The Arbitrator is awesome, and training drones is absolutely not a waste unless you plan on flying the Oracle and nothing else for the remainder of your EVE-career. It might not be as easy to fit or fly as the Maller for newcomers to missioning though.

The Omen is on okay ship for doing level 2s, but the Oracle is going to have a tough time with level 3s, especially with low SP. L3s are still very heavy on small enemies (frigates and cruisers) and the Oracle's large guns and lack of drones mean lots of time spent failing to track orbiting frigates.
Drones are very worthwhile to train, getting Drones to V is essential for every race. You could definitely use the Arbitrator for Level 2s if you want, it's not a bad ship. I recommend the Harbinger for level 3s, it is less training time than Large Lasers and will do the missions much faster.

as a fellow Amarr capsuleer, training drone skills is absolutely not a waste of time. When you get to Battleships you'll be GLAD you have them to kill pesky frigate rats. The Arbitrator is a good drone boat, kinda lacks on the DPS side with only 2 turrets and a launcher though, to be quite honest I think I did better with the Omen when solo'ing level 3's. Can you post your Coercer setup? I hope your not having too hard of a time doing lvl 2 missions by yourself with it, I'm blowing through them easily in a Minmitar Thrasher.

Edit: Have to agree with the above poster, I forgot I used the Harbinger a lot for solo 3's, not the Omen.

When i first started training i thought the same thing only i wanted to pvp with the oracle. This ship has influenced me to create this character which is my alternate, simple for pvp. I can fly the oracle and i have an ok setup for meta 4 stuff. i will tell you though from experience and my impatience that the large guns do have trouble. and since buying the oracle i have only flown it once. The ship truly should only be used as pvp regarding its inability to use drones as other had mentioned. i would definatly suggest fitting a harbinger, as it is great for lvl 3's, and i would work towards a paladin for lvl 4's of course in the mean time you can work for a apoc. that has just been my corps suggestion since my main is a miner. 8D

I don't think it can really be emphasized enough - training drone skills is not a waste of time. Not only should you train Drones to V, but be sure to pick up the various support skills for them, too.

Arbitrator is decent for Level 2s, as is a Maller, with its bonus to armor resistances.

I would expect this heresy from a filthy caldari, but from an amarrian????

Avoid tier 3 battlecruisers for PvE, if they get webbed & scrammed by a close orbiting frig you'll be stuck there till your tank fails or till the server goes down.

Those new ships really are 1 trick ponies (haha I said ponies in an internet thread) and trying to force them into a mission running role will only end in failure. Basically they are not designed to tank and missions require some tanking at least. Large guns are useless against small targets and the oracle has no drones to deal with frigates either.

If you're prefer turrets Coercer > Omen > Harbinger > Apoc > Navy Apoc/Baddon > Paladin > Nightmare

For drones the progression would be Arbitrator > Harbinger > Geddon > Navy Geddon
