Ive been looking at the Vigilant. It looks to me like its a pretty handy ship - would like to know you guys opinions on it?
Its a choice between Proteus or Vigilant at the moment for me. Though may cross train to Cynabal?
Thanks.

I have tin foil hat trained to 5.

I was going to write you a nice, thought out reply but then I noticed you bumped your own thread after just 30 minutes. So now I won't.

Completely different ships with same purpose: pew pew

So I'd sat no matter the one you pick will do your business but since you don't give that much information there are a few points you must realise:

Cynabal-Vigilant: same cross training skills exception guns, one uses projectiles and is prefered with shield (cynabal) the other is prefered armour tank and uses hybrids(Vigilant).

Price tag difference between both is 100M not justified at all since Cynabal > Vigilant in every point except EFT/Pyfa numbers that are reference numbers without many factors that will make Cynabal much better than Vigilant.

Proteus is some handy small truck, one day is a cloacky prober the day after is just a rogue in space bumping his target to decloak and omgtfpwn in tha face /thxbye (you need to love this rubish game style), can fit for a great heavy very heavy tackle or just fit to be a great dps beast competing with best T1 BS fittings for the top place.

But the Proteus has some drawbacks, since last patch I haven't fly one so I'll let someone else daily flying it explain pros and cons.

The vigilant's 90% web is great in situations where you outclass the enemy and are trying to trap/chase/hunt him. Its solid tank and facemelting dps ensure its not a liability if the enemy fights back. I can think of several times I'd have missed a kill if there wasn't a 90% web in the gang. The proteus can also do this, except with a long scram instead of a stop-you-in-your-tracks web.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

Since the null buff surely you can fly a vigilant pretty much like a Vaga/Cynabal?

Something like this actually out DSPs both a Vaga & a Cynabal outside of 5km all the way out to point rage and beyond, even factoring in high transversal, although projectiles do better vs ships with very small sig radius and high velocity(eg. MWD AFs/Inties):

[Vigilant, Nano Viginlant]
Damage Control II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Tracking Enhancer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II

10MN MicroWarpdrive II
Warp Disruptor II
Large Shield Extender II
Large Shield Extender II

Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Null M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Null M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Null M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Null M
Heavy Neutron Blaster II, Null M

Medium Hybrid Ambit Extension II
Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II
Medium Anti-Thermal Screen Reinforcer II

Valkyrie II x5

Yes it's slower, but not by a hell of a lot.

1. Buy a cane.
2. Fit 2 webs.
3. ???
4. 250M profit.

It is basically like a Thorax from the working days of blaster pvp, except the meta game is far worse(tanked tier 2 BCs with lots of neuts instead paper thin nano Cruisers\HACs) and it isn't useful in the wild(at least at the premium price tag, unlike the Cynabal) for the thing it actually is useful for and mostly gets used for docking games or as range fitted null ship(where even a 60% web is fully sufficient to control a single target and apply peak dps against it at 12-18km).

Oh and it got quite some capacitor issues, since CCP removed the MWD cap bonus.

Shield vigilant is a way better overall ship then armor vigilant, unless you are flying in an armor gang with logi and you require webs

Vigilants (shield) stomp on cynabals face any day of the week

To OP, both ships have completely different purposes, Id suggest to know that kind of stuff before even considering buying one.

Why would you ever, ever, ever fly a vigilant without a web is beyond me. A nanocane gets better stats then this for 1/5 the price.

The reason to fly a vigilant is the web that is the most awesome thing in the world, so swap one LSE II for a Fed navy web and youre in business.
