9 Year Old Newbie looking for information on Mining, PoS, Planet Mining? Etc in 0.5 and higher space

So my name is Kane Hart, I been playing eve since 2003 but for the most part I come back and play for a half a week and quit mainly because I get lost confused and just never had proper guidance. I like it small and I like to be a loaner if that makes any sense.

So I can do some agent missions on my drake I do mostly level 2 but its slow and painful and I know if I work hard I could do Agent 3 missions even 4 but that is not really my enjoyment unless I can slaughter something with my eyes closed and I do know that Agent 4 missions bring you into 0.4 space like my friend who also got back and the first mission he did no one was in the system and goodbye 200mil.

That was me I would be checking eve out again sometime in 2014 hehe. That being said I would like to invest more of my time into Mining, POS, PI is it called? etc etc. So pretty much I like to have fun and do stuff 0.5 and higher and I know there is not a lot of good ore and etc and it takes longer but I'm not always the best at communication and my friend and I want a small corp but can't find an alliance and etc and you know how it goes.

So hopefully you guys can help me out with info like what I should try and maybe what steps say Mining first then etc etc.

Thanks so much!

I don't know much about other things you mentioned but I'll say a bit about missions:

Drake is best in level 3 missions, so Caracal might work better in level 2 (being smaller ship it hits smaller enemies better).

And you can do level 4 missions in highsec (0.5 and above) no need to go to 0.4.

New to EVE? Don't forget to read: The Manual * The Wiki * The Career Options * and everything else

^ This.

Your drake is struggling in level 2 missions because it's overkill. You are shooting larger missiles at small targets, try to downscale to the Caracal with light missiles, those are more effective to frigates and destroyers.

The Drake is good to run level 3 missions and can do level 4's if your paying attention as level 4's can be hard for a Drake.

And level 4's only take you to low-sec if the level 4 agent is in low-sec or lives very close (read max 5 jumps) from any low-sec system. If you have a level 4 agent that is deep in high-sec you will never see any low-sec system while you run missions.

1) Yeah, right tool for the right job. Get a Caracal wtih AML Launchers to do those Level II's. If you just grind away at them you'll get through them and get into the Level III's where the Drake is more suited. That said - you're going to have small ships in those Level III's too - so you want your drone skills up to kill them - or - your target painting skills to make them easier for those larger missiles to hit.

2) Every mission that sends you into Low Sec - comes with a warning. If you see that warning - turn down the mission - unless you're looking for some PVP - as PVP is what you might well get. Also - don't go down to Lo Sec with some ship you can't afford to lose - in fact - don't fly some ship you can't afford to lose.

3) Your next problem is that mining and mission running don't really mix that well as far as skills go. You can do both - but - it will slow down your progression skill wise. If you want to do both with the same character - then get them skilled up enough to make money in one profession and only then pursue another one. Trying to pursue both at the same time is going to take forever to get into a good money making status.

4) If you did want to pursue both career paths at once - you could get another account - then have the mision runner haul for the miner, although, those roles might initially be reversed - as you mission runner can probably get in an Osprey now. Once the new character is trained up enough to use the Osprey - give it to him and have the mission runner haul for him. You can also have the mission runner run missions - and then mine any asteroids in the mission space he gets. If you have a buddy - you can team up with him instead of getting another character - or in addition to his other character. You have to work that out between you.

5) POS is a little space station you can do various things with. The problem is - there isn't that much they can do in high sec besides research - all the moon mining and such takes place at lower security levels. A POS also is not merly expensive to set up - but a pain in the ass to maintain.

6) PI is doable by anyone but you need to invest some money and training time to be doing more than just pissing around. Once you get it set up though - it can bring in some nice passive income.

7) Go to the user guide and spend some time looking up POS, Mining and PI - that should give you an idea of what you're looking at. Also look up the Missions section as there's a lot of good information there.

Any level of mission can send you to low sec, it just depends how close the agent is to low sec. Level 5s on the other hand are low sec only.

In the case of level 1-4 mission in low sec you can just decline them. (Note the 4 hour timer tho so you don't lose standings)

Thanks for the info and thanks to everyone else for the info. For the mining part of things I learned a lot today about griefing and how it seems almost impossible to do now. I guess I will hope for the best for my corp application on the forums and hope for the best :)

Train the relevant "social" skills.... it will help your mission grind a lot.

FC, what do?
