change to make courier missions in lowsec more popular

Distribution agents just LOVE to send you off to lowsec destinations, paying SLIGHTLY higher rewards for these dangerous missions. The biggest problem is the potential losses involved. You can't ensure that an industrial will survive a trip through lowsec, but you can buy a cheap one and use a jump clone with no implants installed so there's little loss if you do get shot. But if you lose the ship carrying the mission cargo, you lose the cargo which is necessary for completion of the mission. If you fail the mission, you lose 10-20 missions worth of standings with the NPC corp, and you even lose several storyline missions worth of faction standings. Those hits are simply not worth the risk unless you can find a secluded spot with tons of distribution agents, or get someone to fly with you.

My solution? Take out the huge standings hit (make it a tiny standings hit, like 1-2 missions worth, no faction standings hit) and instead the mission should require a substantial down payment of collateral to accept, thus losing the cargo means you lose the collateral. This way, a daring pilot who believes they can mitigate risks would be willing to gamble their isk on the assumption that they will succeed enough missions to make more money than they lose. They won't have to worry about a string of bad luck severely crippling their standings to the point of forcing them to run level 2-3 agents for a while.

Thoughts?

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

I understand to each his own, people like different things...etc etc etc.

However, Courier missions? Seriously?! People actually do them?

Why?

Yes, yes and yes. Right now it is pointless to even attempt a lowsec courier mission in anything other than a blockade runner and lets face it, its going to be primarily new players running courier missions. You could double the reward for lowsec courier missions and it still probably wouldn't be worth it.
