Rotating or alternating downtime

I live in a part of the world where downtime happens at 7pm. Not enough time to do anything in Eve before downtime after I get in from work, and after 7.30pm I have other responsibilities (ie to my stomach). I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

Downtime should either rotate an hour forwards (or backwards) each day, or alternate between 2 or 3 different regular timeslots.

I appreciate that for some people in the world downtime happens at 4am, and I realise that some people aren't carebears so the respawning during downtime doesn't bother them, but is it fair that I can only play on the weekend when I inevitably have other stuff to do?

No that's all right, don't change your dinner time to coincide with downtime... we'll just reorganize the entire game around you instead.

The vast majority of the game population is asleep at 4am. You are the exception. As stated above I do not see why you wouldn't just change your dinner time if it was really such a problem for you.

dont like the DT but like the fact its always at the same time, so I dont need to look somewhere or confuse myself for any reason and run into DT unexpectedly.

The EVE servers are based in London and downtime takes place when it's most convenient to CCP and they have the most people available to deal with any issues. If they set DT at 4am UST then some error could occur when the servers are rebooted and there may not be team members available to deal with them. Would you rather have that happen?

Put your entitlement away and eat your dinner.

Wasn't it said in some dev blog last year that they'll eventually get rid of daily downtime completely or make it extremely short.

1. Not sure why you don't eat dinner DURING DOWNTIME (problem solved)

2. Would you rather that you have to check each day when downtime is? That would be SO annoying - hey lets go on a roam... oh ****, downtime starts in an hour today, thought that was tomorrow. **** it all, I'm outta here.

Downtime is only 30 minutes, and I'm sure that you can find SOMETHING to do for that time...

What a surprise. It isn't a problem for some people so they can't see it being a problem for others. Typical selfish jackasses.

Guess what? I do eat my dinner during downtime. Guess what? I have a life instead of having mom make my dinner and do housework, like you lot of children. I have to spend a chunk of each evening doing adult stuff. It's really that simple. And having downtime right in the middle of the only time I can spare for gaming means that I don't get to game. YOU lot quit your bitching.

And you know the entire game can't change its schedule around you, so you're just trolling?

For the OP's wish ccp would need to pay IT people a night salary, which i can tell you is a LOT more than normal hahaha!

Just ship the servers to australia every other month, right? :)

How does explaining why DT happens when it does acting like children or bitching. You're the one that's bitching.

Yes. Downtimes used to be a full hour, then they were shortened to half an hour as they were able to reduce the time needed for daily housekeeping tasks.

YOU'RE the dumbass. Your life is different to mine and somehow it's MY fault I'm inconvenienced by downtime?

How difficult would it be for CCP to alternate downtime between 7pm and 5pm every other day?

very, one would assume, as thier devs won't be starting at 8-9AM like normal people if that's when DT starts. Who wants to start work at 6-7 AM anyway?

Downtime is at 11:00 GMT (local time for the devs). It happens to be the best time for the owners of the servers/code/networking equipment/hamsters to take care of their daily tasks.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

It's obvious from the OP's replies that this thread wasn't intended to get reasonable and sensible responses that explain why DT is when it is. It's either just someone trolling or a massive cry baby, either way, who cares.

Indeed. Was just adding to Danika's post about the "reasonable" expectation that DT started at 0900 when the devs show up. Then again, I could have misinterpreted what Danika meant...
