I usually traverse about 5 miles a day on foot, also every day I get a taco bell volcano burrito (used to be a big mac but McDonalds is rebuilding the closest one and I don't want to walk in the other direction.

Salt is what makes your nerves work, too much salt somehow makes you fat or something. I forgot the reason, but I think the amount you should have is about 500mg a day or something.

Fun fact: McDonalds big mac contains 1050mg of sodium Shocked

Salt/sodium is an electrolyte, which can cause health problems if they're out-of-balance. Some salt is good (and, for the record, a certain amount is required for the proper operation of some of our bodies' systems), but too little or too much can cause circulatory collapse.

That's why McDonalds has been attempting to lower the sodium content of its fries and hamburgers; both to change their unhealthy image, and promote proper eating habits.

McDonalds fries kick ass though Sad

If there were a Long John Silvers within 2.5 miles my ass would be on this diet/exercise program in a big fast heart beat.

Salt is absolutely vital for all cooking: after a Bandit-killing-spree I always search every Barrel to find those Salt Piles.

Refined Salt Piles (aka 'WHITE DEATH') are terrible for you.
You need natural Fire Salts and Void Salts to keep you healthy. Twisted

It's all is harmfull when abused. Unfortunatly the level of crap you find in food these days means people are now putting on more fat than seals. You know when you see an arctic seal and a person sunbathing and the person is fatter that something is horribly wrong with the world.

If fat people exercised once in awhile instead of just eat all the time then they wouldn't need to worry about what they eat too much, as long as you do enough exercise within, I don't know, a month? Even casually? You wouldn't have this problem. That said people don't notice but avoiding eating fruit and veg causes it's own problems like constipation which I'd argue is even worse than being overweight because of the amount of pain it causes.

It's people just doing nothing but sitting at their computers or on their couches all day doing nothing but eating that are the real issue here, not salt or what fat content is in your food. Even someone like me who does spend a lot of time on the computer manages at least 3 hours of exercise each week.

When a burger contains 50% of your daily salt needs and twice the fat it doesnt take long to outgrow your pants and if a meal requires massive amounts of salt to make it tasty then you have to wonder just how **** it really is.

Burgerking brought out some crazy burger they have in the US. The thing was loaded with so much fat and salt the doctors council gave it a health warning. BK soon stopped doing it to stop all the bad press about itLol

all the big fast food chains serve utter crap, even the McSalad or whatever its called has lots of salt and fat in itUgh

It doesn't help that the meat we eat here in the US is pretty much just fat disguised as meat.

I'm still more concerned about the extremely high fat and carbohydrate content of all western foods these days than the salt content. Fun fact, a lot of real Asian food has a decent amount of salt in it, and it's still MUCH better for you than any western food.

Another fun fact: The vast vast majority of all Asian food in the west has been westernized to include the fat, carbs, etc. just so they can get American customers also. If you go to China or Japan and order some of the foods you might find in an "authentic" Chinese or Japanese restaurant in the west, it's MUCH more bland, has a lot more vegetables typically, and has the wonderful side effect of being sooooo much cheaper (at least in China).

I spent a couple weeks in Shanghai... didn't see a single fat person.

Except me at 5'11" and a beefy 150 lbs.

Yeah, in part because you can go out to eat in Shanghai (or Qingdao, where I spent a few weeks), and get actual food, i.e. stuff that is edible, rather than a pile of grease on a plate covered in sugar and filled with preservatives.

Doing that is HARD in the west. Over there you can go just about anywhere and get healthy food.

I had McDonalds when I got back, promptly threw up violently. Real Chinese food made me weak Straight

In hindsight I couldn't identify most of what I had there... I think there were noodles in some things but they felt and tasted... different....

Also I had pigeon Big smile

You just got used to eating natural food instead of pink goo and other preservatives. Blink

I ate all sorts of weird things also. Duck feet, Chicken feet, Duck gizzards, meat gelatin (I would not recommend this, nasty), cooked blood (somehow cooked, I didn't ask), and even things that don't even have an english name.

The most impressive thing I remember though is with EVERY meal, they would have HUGE bowls filled with vegetables that were cooked fairly plainly, but still very good. I thought it was also funny how the people would fuss at me for eating too much meat and starch. I started eating like they did and my body thanked me for it (my digestive system operated normal for once, apart from learning how to use the holes in the ground they have for toilets in most public locations).

Ok simple version: Sodium replaces Potassium which is needed for healthy kidney function, which in turn effects blood pressure. (This isn't scientific fact only my assumption from reading way too much about this subject)

Answer: eat lots of bananas and you can probably eat as much salt as you want.

Epidemiwhateveritscalled shows that only specific sets of hypertensives over 40 really suffer from excess salt consumption (not that the salt police read it that way). One amusing study in Scotland showed that heavy whisky drinkers over 50 benefited from increased salt intakeShocked
