I have read that it scratches the interiors of your arteries. This ruffened surface enables fat deposits to build up more easily, creating clogged arteries. I don't know why it can't be used to scratch away the fat deposits as well...Shocked

It makes you bloated and look unsexy. That's enough of a reason to keep it's use to a minimum.

It helps to preserve meat and other food stuffs so that we have something to eat during cold seasons (for those of us who do not live in paradise called Panama). So of course the Greens want it gone, that way people starve to death and population problem is solved, Earth is saved!

Common sense anit so common.

Salt is what makes your nerves work, too much salt somehow makes you fat or something. I forgot the reason, but I think the amount you should have is about 500mg a day or something.

Fun fact: McDonalds big mac contains 1050mg of sodium Shocked

People get their salt mixed up.

That white stuff of the table, used almost everywhere, that's sodium chloride. Processed white table salt. It's bad for you, just as processed white sugar and bleached flour. The term "white death" is used for any of these food items.

Sea Salt is good for you, having other elements in it. There is salt actually from the sea, or you can get salt that is mined from the mountains. There is "mormon salt" from the mines in Utah which is actually read in color, or you can get a comparable kind of mined mineral salt that tends to (based on the packaging I see) comes from Pakistan.

Funny thing is, if you have horses, you can buy salt licks for them, which are really large rocks of this mined salt. It's healthier for them and they can consume as much as they want. You can grind the same salt and use it yourself.

I use salt and sugar all of the time, but Sea Salt and natural cane sugar, and wear the same sized clothes I wore in high school (and being a slob, still have the same clothes too) and I am over 40. Salt is not bad for you, only refined sodium chloride is.

Fun thing I learned in chemistry... sodium is toxic as is chlorine. But when the 2 ions from those elements bond and form sodium chloride it's not toxic anymore Shocked

Also water makes sodium kersplode

Salt/sodium is an electrolyte, which can cause health problems if they're out-of-balance. Some salt is good (and, for the record, a certain amount is required for the proper operation of some of our bodies' systems), but too little or too much can cause circulatory collapse.

That's why McDonalds has been attempting to lower the sodium content of its fries and hamburgers; both to change their unhealthy image, and promote proper eating habits.

It took long enough for McDonald's to realise that killing your customers is a bad idea because dead customers cannot buy burgers.

Also hasn't slowed down Marlboro.

Though if they Pinkie promised and didn't do it they'd be killed horribly (though lovingly)

salt, cholesterol and high fat foods have never been proven to be unhealthy in any way. in every study ever done if you read past any bias the results are
salt doesn't harm you in reasonable amounts.
cholesterol is only bad if small, dense LDL caused by sugar
Unsaturated AND Saturated fats do no harm to the body.

Pretty much this, everything is fine in moderation and as long as your diet is varied and has enough fruit and veg in it. Staying active is necessary to, you do not need to be a gym fanatic just a generally active lifestyle and avoid being completely sedentary.

Eating nothing but a high fat, high protein diet with lots of empty carbs and sitting in front of TV/computer all your spare time causes the health problems.
