Hurricane for nullsec ratting?

So. I'm planning to move out to nullsec in the not-too-distant future. And I have this cane sitting around in a hangar unused, since I finished with lv3 missions.

So, I thought, how DO missions compare to nullsec ratting? Is the cane viable for that?
I mean, it's agile enough to gtfo if a gang rolls through, it's got six guns of blam, can be shield tanked like I'm used to, and plenty of slots for resists and stuff.
Plus, I already have the hull, so it's less expense on stuff to buy. And if I'm careful with the rigs, it can serve double duty in pvp fleets and roams and bashes and stuff.
Plus, being a T1 hull, I can insure it and get in on ship replacement for any pvp loss.

So, what SHOULD I rig it with to fit it for both pvp and pve?
Will a shield-boosted mission fit work well for popping nullsec rats?
Should I bother rigging it at all, considering I may need to abandon the system totally at some point?

The Cane should do fine for nullsec ratting. Spawns range in difficulty anywhere from a couple frigs and cruisers to 3-4 BSes with a few cruisers supporting. Any decently fit BC can handle them fine.

The strongest DPS belt spawn (apart from officers) is 3x BS and 3x BCs, and those are fairly rare. A Hurricane makes for a cheap, effective ratting ship. I'd advise a shield + AC fit. Specific tactics will vary with rat type.

EDIT: A good rule is not to use your ratting ship for PvP if you can help it.

cookie dps shield fit should belt rat fine if you have good skills:

6x 425mm ACII
2x medium neut

LSE II
invul II
meta MWD
*pick your mid*

3x gyrostab II
2x TE II
DCU II

rigs: choise of these, for ratting and small shield gang with logi I'd recommend first
1) burst aerator II + anti-em + anti-therm
2) anti-em + 2x extender

I used to live in angel space. The hurricane out performed all other ships I tried as a belt ratter. Can't remember my exact fit but I think it was -

highs - 6 x 425mm II ac with regular fusion M, 2 x HAM II explo hams whatever their called now, nova?
mids - 2 LSE II, invuln II, 10mn AB II
lows - 3 x gyro II, dc II, TE II, PDS II (I think I had the PDS for fitting and permarunning the ab, may have tried 2 TE and 2 Gyro as well)
rigs - 3 x purgers
warrior IIs for scrambling or webbing frigs

Basically it was warp to belt, burn to rats, orbit, melt incredibly fast.

I tried a Sacrilege. Surplus of tank, but just couldn't kill as fast a cane. Ditto for the drake. The passive shield hurricane just was so much better than the other cheap alternatives. Even the above tank may have been more than necessary, but as long as BCs have such a stupidly easy shield regen why not make use of it for peace of mind.

Of course you could get better range and faster killing with a Mach. But my attitude was why belt rat in something expensive.

I prefer to rat in a 650 arty cane. Seems to tear them up surprisingly well, range is less of an issue, and your ammo costs are much lower.

While ratting, stay aligned to a safe or celestial so you can warp quickly, and watch local.

I've done ratting in PvP fitted ships plenty of times. Drakes are particularly effective for this, as much as folks like to hate on them. I suspect a Hurricane would also work as a ratter, even if PvP fit.

a vagabond with a pvp fit can be a decent ratter in sansha/blood space also i used my sniper fit munnin to rat in serpentis rgion and it wasnt that bad also i used a shield cane to rat with the standard pvp fit they might not be efficent like a 100% pve ship but at least you have a chanche to have some fun when you are ratting and someone comes to kill you.
sometime i even used a tempest and got a couple of kills with it while ratting.
