Frankly, its a form of gambling, both on the part of the scammer and the scammee (is that a word?). If the scammer is aiming for the bigger fish, a scammee sending him 20m will have a good day.
The trick for the scammer is to either cycle a lot of alts and cash in on the tryout transfers from the scammee gamblers, or play it smart and rank it up for the highscore with a few 100 mill investment and some risk.
The trick for the scammee gambler is to try and drive it up and quit when ahead, the latter is harder than most think as the first type of scammers is rampant, thus raking in on the gamblers.

Wow I never looked at it that way. It sounds like a rather enjoyable way to gamble your isk as opposed to blinking it away to somer.

They must be making enough money for it to be worth the effort at least. Though I suppose part of the fun is simply to know that you messed with someone else. Pirate

It can be quite an enjoyable challenge, but as the waters are fowled with the ease with which characters can be cycled, the proper gambling part of it is hard to find.

There are more problems stemming from how fleeting reputations are due to char cycling, but this is a good example where some richness in interaction is lost.

Not sure I understand what you mean by character cycling. Do you mean using different characters regularly because you will be getting blocked by a lot of ppl?

Sometimes when I get bored, I help those guys replying to the scam. You want to join channel like "scam-me' or another to read about scammers codex and stuff.

What I mean is biomassing a char as soon as its reputation is useless, and subsequently making a new one to start from scratch.

Can't deny that it does bring interesting chat to follow in local... even though it is pretty annoying spam.

But like said, it wouldn't be there it it wasn't worth it - so the more people that do it - the less popular it will get and soon there will be an end to the spam/scam. Go go go! Big smile

The 1st time I've seen this scam years ago, one thing immediately jumped out at me:
If you're giving away your money cause you no longer need it, why do you need me to send you more money?

There are some creative scams out there.. but this one is not on that list.

For those interested in the actual gambling here's a protip:

The true gamblers - where the fun is to be had with this game - don't include the giving away isk part of the story.
