Would love to say " I am going!"

Depends how much money I will save up before then. Anyone from US, CA and that went to Fanfest before... How much does it generally cost and how much you think you'll spend on fanfest? Need a rough estimate, especially on the SPENDING part like booze and souviners.

I am sure there will be some other Americans who can pop in and give you some more advice but the best thing you can look at doing now is booking early as flight prices are cheaper the earlier you book them. You can check out Icelandair and Iceland Express to see which is cheaper from your nearest domestic airport.

Accommodation can take up quite a bit of your budget but there are quite a few low cost hotels which are popular with EVE players and you should check out the Hotel Cabin for early low rates.

The price of alcohol will vary from bar to bar but you can pick up duty free beer and spirits when you arrive in Iceland to subsidize that expense. In a bar a beer will range from 500 ISK up to around 800 ISK.

There really is nothing quite like your first Fanfest. CCP Tyr has been making the event bigger and better with every year so this one is going to be the best so far Big smile

Yeah.. we could have gold plated interiors. We could be drinking from chalices, covered in precious stones and served to us by our personal slaves assigned to us upon registration. We could feast in the splendor of the God!

But noooo! People wanted to sit in a decrepit garbage compactors being entertained by the sparks flying off loose wiring and smelling burning duct tape all day. We're all going to get lead poisoning from the lousy excuse of a mug we'll be handed and will have to haul our own loot around in whatever container we can scavenge from the trash bins. Now I have to go check up on my tetanus shots!

I wish I could go, but it would royally suck to leave for Iceland married and a homeowner, and come back divorced and living under a bridge. (basically, my wife would kick my rear)

Bring her along. There is a serious rise in the amount of spouses who attend through the Sisters of EVE program.

This way you both get to have a great holiday with the bonus of no divorce Lol

I can confirm this. Back in 2008 I literally spent weeks convincing my wife that it would be a good idea to come to Fanfest, but the Sisters of EVE program has completely won her over. Smile

Oh, I'm sure I can convince her to go based on SoE, and simply traveling. The difficulty is $835 airfare from Houston to Reykjavik. Per person. (thats more than we paid to go to Hawaii, which is quite a bit warmer)

So... while I'd LOVE to go... its highly unlikely.

Drink enough alcohol, and you can kill any bacteria and such in your system. Alcohol is a sterilizing agent. (but it doesn't make you, or anyone else, sterile. For proof, please go to your nearest college campus on any day that ends in "y")

We should be having package deals on the site later this year (flight, hotel, ticket) as we've done in the past, but I want to talk about spending USD in Iceland. I'm not sure where in the US you're located, but I living in NYC where the cost of living is a bit higher than most of the country. Food and drink there costs a bit more than they do in the US. A sandwich and soda from Nonni's can cost 10 or more dollars, depending upon what I get. But they have a lot of convenience stores there (called 10-11) which, I think, is much more affordable than eating out all the time.

Booze can be a bit pricey, too, but we will probably provide you with food/beer tickets for use at the venue (iirc... I mostly deal with Sisters of EVE/CSM/Fan sites at the Info Desk and not regular visitors).

I'm debating it... I'd like to go to this kind of event. Even if I decided to shed my bitterness over the way things have gone with the development of EVE, I don't think I'd be able to refrain from bringing along some rotten cabbage for Hilmar's speech.

Just debating if EVE is worth dumping that much cash into any more, or if there are any other similar competing events that are worth the $. The quality of the winter expansion is CCP's chance to sell tickets (and to keep people from unsubbing altogether.)
