Mechanics to give celestials 'impact' on game play

In EVE, a lot of space features has little to no impact on what a capsuleer does or how we operate. Others have mentioned impact damage from asteroids, etc but I'd like to discuss some other ideas. With Dust on the horizon (pun intended), maybe it is time to tweak planets and their characteristics as space and atmospheric operations come closer to reality.

Any thoughts on introducing gravity wells to celestials of a certain mass? This would effect the speeds of certain spacecraft (based on mass) when in a certain orbit region. Think of it as an area effect web of a few varying percentages, decreasing as you get further from the planet's surface.

For example, if planetary bombardment was a joint EVE-Dust feature and dreads had to be in a certain orbit range to conduct bombardment operations, they would be effected. Within this range, jump drives would be disabled until they broke free of gravity well effects. This would up the committal to perform planetary support and make running away more difficult and a less favorable option then it is now in fleet warfare. This could also be the orbital region of other planetary support roles such as drop ships, etc.

Orbits would need to be expanded and others have asked for manually-entered options and an increase in options besides the 0-100km range.

Just trying to add some more features that merge characteristics of space and drive the use of tactics.

Suggestions and thoughts?
