New Stealth Bombers, oppinion?

Hi People

I would like to hear your opinion about the Stealth Bombers and the Buff/Nerf they recieved quite some time ago.

It has taken me some time to actually post this because it seems that the new stealth bombers.

I would like to compare the Old Stealth Bombers to the New Stealth Bombers

Old Stealth Bomber:
Cruise Missiles (150+ Range)
No Cloaked Warp
Speed Bonus while cloaked, making you with high skills faster cloaked than uncloaked.

New Stealth Bomber
Torpedoes (60+ Range)
Cloaked Warp
No Speed Bonus

I miss the Old Stealth Bomber's Cruise Missiles, making it viable in fleet compositions as a sniper and small fleets as both scout and DPS, though now having Torpedoes, it is to squishy to actually bring it to fleets other than bomber fleets, in my opinion that is.

Now if CCP was to bring the Cruise Missiles back, should it be that they keep the ship as it is, give the old bonuses to Cruise Missiles, and let it fit both Cruise and Torpedo launchers, let it keep Cloaked Warp, and don't bring back the old Cloaked Speed Buff?

Well what is your guys opinion about the current stealth bomber? Would you like the Cruise Missiles back on them? And if so, should they keep Torpedoes or only Cruise Missiles?

Only real change I would like to see.

TBH... they are called stealth bombers... not stealth torpedoers or cruisers. If they were to change again, they should be able to fit all bomb launchers and a COV OPS cloak in the highs with ability to launch all, and enough cargo capacity to carry one reload.

The control to this would be the current mechanic of bombs having hit points and not being able to launch more than six bombs at a target in one wave.

OP aspect: two bombers could effectively make a wave of bombs at a time, thus cutting the necessary bomber pilots to be a threat to fleets by 66%.

Bombers are working fine as-is really. And I think part of the reason for the change to torps is that they can't actually use bombs from Cruise range.

Besides, didn't this change happen, like 3-5 years ago? They're not "New Stealth Bomber" anymore after that much time, lol, it's just what it is.

My personal opinion is that this thread should've been created all of those years ago, when the changes came in. It just looks like navel gazing now.

Stealth Bombers used to suck. Now they are awesome.

Change worked out pretty well.

Stealth bombers are one of the most encountered frig classes out there.

With proper numbers and tactics, stealth bombers are amazing tools. I am sure many toons will be posting (if asked) battle reports of some 50 SBs taking out BS fleets double or more their size right before the former thought would pwn the enemy's diversion fleet.

You can have fun even solo or better in small packs, with proper tactics, assault bookmarks for warping in and out and a bubble or two. Yes, its hard against frigs, but so it was back in the Cruise Missile days, when there was no bomb launcher option that would worth it, and people were completely un-aware of the SBs cause those were so rare. I have a few 100s of kills in a Cruise-Purifier, when I was solo roaming the North, making BM around gates etc for later use. I was a noob with a lot of patience, and I could kill un-tackled noobs with even less patience than mine, self bubbled Sabres that would give aggro to themselves trying to warp out and then re-approached the gate instead when I was shooting from 90km etc. Fun, but silly at the same time. and ofc you could whore on kills others would make perfectly fine without you around anyways.

What you are actually asking is pretty much is a very fast when cloaked frig that does 1/3 the DPS of a current Torp SB, is too ***** or too disorganized to use it's bombs, but can whore KMs from 100+ km while being sorta untouchable, as it can cloak up or warp etc...in a few words, that's the exact reason the SBs were underutilized, and eventually changed: to give them a chance to be something more than a tool for the KM whore (you can still do that in any cloaking recon tbh, just uncloak and activate any module from the edge of your locking range).

This basically. They've gone from excelling in a near-useless niche to being extremely effective in several highly valuable niches.

The part about them only working in packs is the part I actually dislike. Well it was just my opinion, so it's was just to get a feeling about it.

Well I will still say I miss the cruise launchers, not necesarily the faster cloaked, and I like the warp cloaked better now.
I just miss the range, where Stealth Bombers could be part of Fleets, I even did low sec roams with some of my buddies back in the day, but I guess that's just me being Nostalgic.

I see SB used a lot solo in worm holes. You just need to pick the right targets. Frigates that aren't paying attention are bomb bait. Indys, salvagers, and even the occasional miner.

They also come in really handy in fleets. They are well liked in POS sieges where the size of the fleet depends on worm hole mass. (Generally the fleet can easily bring extra torp reloads.) Also they are valued as scouts, initial scram for ambushes and can really make a difference against larger ships in and around wormholes.

I suspect that in LS, and NS you see a lot of similar uses.

Yeah because bombing runs weren't dumbed down enough with cloaked ships not uncloaking each other anymore.

I miss the old bombers, I loved the cruise range and hitting cruiser and below well. My first kill ever was a black bird from 150km out.

Even popped a ceptor as well. I wouldnt mind if they allow both weapon systems to be fitted and give them a bonus for bother, so you have that option.

The torp change was nice and great for BS and BC, but i still like the other one better.

Realistically though a bomber can use bomb launchers, its limited to 1 and you can only use them in null, which is no fun, and that most FC's refuse to allow bombs on fleet because you always get the couple idiots who always screws the pooch and messes up with them.

I'd like the Rof bombs to go really down, half of what if is now and make bombers incapable to use something else than bombs.

Make those bombs smaller, more dmg, larger radius explosion and imune 99% to every dmg type (disco bombing yeah)

Let me make this nice and simple:

Covert ops cloak = useful.

Non-covert ops cloak = worthless.

Whether or not you prefer torps vs. cruise, the old bombers were utterly worthless* because of their inability to warp while cloaked. Since the "new" bombers have a useful cloak instead of wasted bonuses, there's actually a reason to fly one. Now if only CCP would finally realize that the same rule is true for black ops ships as well, and fix them.


*Fun fact: a cloaking cruise Raven did everything an old bomber could do, and did it better.

Basically, Stealth Bombers used to kinda suck--that cruise-sniping was really all they could do effectively, according to people I know who flew the old-style ones.

Now, they rock, but you must be paying attention, as they are (they always were, IIRC) made of paper to balance their cloaky torpedo-murder win-ness.

Best change they could have made, IMHO.

E: They are one of my favourite ships, despite their relative niche-orientation. Train CovOps skill to 5, it's not too long, and so very, very worth it.
