Love using the torp Golem.

I want everything I kill to be within the 40km tractor range since I don't come back to missions to loot. I just pick up stuff while still fighting.

Most level 4 mission battleships can be two and three volleyed, and even some of the cruisers can be one volleyed.... A trio of repub fleet target painters works wonders on the smaller ships. Though I do of course just send drones out at the frigs.

Some lvl 4s can actually be done in a rifter. And no that is not a joke.

I'm surprised some actually answered more or less seriuosly...

I realise that the Golem can be very efficient at demolishing larger ships. However, most of your applied DPS will go to smaller ships (as there are simply more of them then battleships, generally speaking), so two points spring to mind:

- You will lose a lot of effective DPS without at least two (but preferably three plus) target painters, which leads me to...

- ...insane micromanagement. TP cycles are a bastard, and timing them with launcher firings is even more so. Worse, you very much have to count volleys if you are to reduce ammo/time wastage, and that couple with the tiny launcher capacity, means that you are flying what is effetively the worse marauder now (did anyone think that would ever be said?!)

Vargur is king, with the Paladin/Kronos a little bit behind, and those are only really second due to their fixed damage types. Yes, the Golem has selectable damage types but, for me, juggling all of this around to kill red crosses is just too insane.

I've done lvl 4 missions in a Thorax. Untill recently I used a Domi as my main mission ship and have now moved onto a Rattlesnake. IMO lvl 4 missions are too easy! There are lvl 4 missions where I don't even have to activate my repper and only use an Invunrability field.

My experiance in a Domi is that it's low DPS if you are relying on drones only it means you need a much bigger tank and you need to run it for longer which can land you in trouble unless you invest alot of isk on it.

Remember the faster you kill ships the less damage you need to tank. knowledge is power! learn which ships are the triggers, what damage types you'll be reciving and what damge types you need to be meating out.

I use a Loki to solo level 4's. It does all of them very easily except the one where you attack the Caldari station and I get jammed out.

It isn't the best ship to do level 4's with by any means, probably one of the worst for efficiency but I really enjoy flying it :)

Doh. I hate moving around, so i used to fly a cruise Golem with 2x TP and the usual assortment of T2 drones. Anything upwards of a Golem is gonna sacrifice tank, so the Golem is the best all-rounder until you get used to room tanking.

Anyway, once i got all shield tanking to 5, the Nightmare turned to be the ultimate pwnmobile. What it did on Blood Raiders can only be called "abuse", scoring some 6,000 damage per volley (over 10,000 on static structures).

Grow bored before trying a Paladin or a Vargur, but, if Vargur has to perform only a bit better than a Machariel, then it's not really worth it, i never bringed the Mach to anyhting but explosive sensitive targets... if they as much as had thermal as secondary, the Nightmare would wipe them way faster than the Mach on their primary.

I'm currently running level 4 missions in a Myrmidon easy enough so a Domi should have no problems

The key is all in the resists. Use Armour hardeners based on what your fighting as a rough guide

Amarr/Blood/Sansha - EM and Thermal
Caldari/Gallente/Guritas/Serpentis/Mordus - Thermal and Kinetic
Minmatar/Angel - Explosive and Kinetic (and a touch of Thermal)

Eve Survival will let you know what to tank.

I lied :o

5 years, huh? What have you been training, nothing but science and industry skills? What?

You can solo L4s after a few months. After 5 years, you should have accidentally come across the skills needed to do so just because you've run out of other things to train.

As for soloing them, the following ships will work quite nicely with varying degrees of effectiveness: Drake, Myrmidon, Harbinger, Hurricane, Rook, Lachesis, Absolution, Damnation, Nighthawk, Astarte, Eos, Claymore, Sleipnir, Deimos, Ishtar, Muninn, Legion, Tengu, Proteus, Loki, and probably a few more that I haven't tested. Oh, and pretty much all battleships, of course, but who needs a battleship anyway — they're for sissies. For some missions, you could list pretty much anything from tier-2 T1 frigates and up, but those are special cases.

I use a Tengu.

The key is a faction small shield booster (preferably the pithi's), mission specific hardeners and a faction afterburner. If you have those and decent shield + cap skills you should be able to tank even the hardest of Level 4s without much of a problem.

Basically I would use a Raven or Domi to save up for a Tengu and once you get enough cash to buy a tengu + a decent fit you should be fine.

I would also suggest using HAMs to get more DPS. With good skills you may be able to hit some targets out from 70km. While you can hit targets even further out with HMs your DPS is going to suffer.

Plus with a Tengu you don't really need much range considering you should be going fast enough for ships to have trouble hitting you anyway.

You can honestly run a Level 4 in anything. You either need to be fast (cause NPCs have crappy tracking) or you have to have good resist.

I even saw a L4 Rifter fit somewhere a year ago....

I'm doing them in a Drake, slow but does the job. So far, no L4 mission got my shields down to less than 50%.
Passive tanked, with resistance rigs as well, T2 heavy missiles and T2 drones. I was a bit disappointed at the low amount of BS rats in the missions and the stupid amount of frigs and cruisers though.
