I tried to avoid this issue but, but looking at my Caldari pilots ship availability made me ask some questions so I figured I'd jump in the fire as well.

Why not just knock 750-1500 points off the Drake's base shield amount to bring it inline with the other BC? Hell with it, knock 2000 points off since it has as many mid slots as it does, then the BC skill bonus would play a useful but not excessive role.

Drake overshadowing the Nighthawk? Change the Nighthawks Kinetic bonus to a flat 5% damage bonus across the board like the other Command ships. Perhaps also swap their shield amounts, 4805 HP of the NH for that of the Drake, 5469 HP. The NH already has less armor than the other CS and second lowest hull HP so better shielding wouldn't be that far out of line for a T2 ship. The NH also has one less mid slot than the Drake so the extra shielding would make it more durable but not excessively so like the Drake currently is.

Why not change it so Command ships are the only combat ships that can use multiple links? I specified combat ship so as not to imply I was including the Orca. I mean seriously, whats the point of saying they "Can use 3 Warfare Link modules simultaneously. " in their descriptions when the T3' get a better bonus and can use more than one as well? Let T3's fit one link if they have to and then swap the bonuses, 3% for T3 and 5% for CS.

An interesting idea, and kind of fits with the idea of T3s being good at multiple roles, but not *the best* at any one of them.

I'd prefer swapping one LOW slot to a MID slot for the Nighthawk. I can't really find a good use for 5 LOW slots on a shield taner ship. It tends to end up being 4xBCS and 1xDCU. If I had one more MID slot to play with, then I could really tank a Nighthawk.

It does need more gank, though. A generic +5% damage bonus would be very nice. That's neded much more than it needs extra tank.

Low to a mid, remove the kinetic bonus for a ROF bonus, Nighthawk wins at eve.

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell.

The biggest thing the NH needs right now is more fitting room, right now it's absurdly tight to fit compared to the other CSes http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Boost_Nighthawk_%28CSM%29

I am so sorry to disappoint you but my Nighthawk gets a 900dps tank with no shield booster on it and will pwn your ass without any capacitor left in it while neuted out.
You can also do level 5 missions solo in it if you get for the neut towers fast.
I think the "problem" with the Nighthawk is that it is a 230mio boat because of moon goo and you can get 7 drakes with fitting for the same isk to do the job.
And I think you confuse field command ships with fleet command ships:
Vulture - fits 3 gang links and has way to less overall tank and damage but it is after all no dps boat.
Nighthawk - fits one link, but nobody will do that. Has ROF and precision bonus for heavy and heavy assault missiles and lacks a bit of powergrid for the latter.
It also has the best possible passive shield recharge rate of any ships in EVE.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!
