The API page used to be intuitive and easy, it's not now (to me). First off I had to find it again. When i logged in it's fairly incomprehensible now.

How do I choose what I need for something simple like EFT? Skill training box?

I can generate a new API verification code after selecting Type/Character/ No clue about access mask, and I selected the skill training box, but ...Key ID? Where is that, what is that?

Edit: Nevermind, found a submit button far below evrythign else, and it seems I chose the wrong box, but EFT actually told me which one to use.

Regardless, the new setup is annoying.

KeyID is the ~10 digit number that is displayed near the vCode. And the new system is actually pretty smooth and works well (especially if you understand how the CAK masking works), but I will admit that it's slightly more complicated for people who don't know what they're doing.

However, since they included the ability for programs to give you a link to the right CAK setting, it's not a huge issue. The new system is more complicated, but it's also much better.

Yup the whole point of the new system is that now you can decide which things you want an API to see. For instance now you can make an API key that shows only your combat log for killboards and nothing else =D

Most of the better applications like EVE Board, EVEmon and EFT have the templates though ^^

Customizable API Keys (CAK)
https://support.eveonline.com/api

It isn't that hard to remember! Big smile

You can have more than one so I suggest:

* Make a Full Access key (everything checked) that covers all characters for your own private use (EVEmon, EFT, etc.). DO NOT SHARE THIS KEY OR USE IT ON ANY WEBSITE!

* Make a limited access key, for a single character only (unless you really want to share all characters on your account), when you want to share stuff. That link is a good starting point, but you may want to edit to add stuff like killmails or remove stuff like training queue. Most websites provide a template.

Make a different key for every website or person you give a key to. Give the key a name that reminds you where you used it, example: eveboard.com

Unless you have a reason to, check No Expiry. You can always delete the key if you want it to no longer be used. Heck, you can always edit the key and change the expiry too.

Click on the question-mark at the end of the line of each checkbox to see details on exactly what you are sharing.

I will also add that you can see an access log of who queried your API keys at https://support.eveonline.com/api/Key/Log in the form of IP addresses. You should be able to find out your own IP address or IP range easily enough.
