Different PVP Fleet Compositions

Hi all,

As i am slowly training towards Fleet Command, i would like to have different input angles on what would be a good fleet composition in different situations.

Every idea is welcome (i.e. various fleet sizes, various ship combos, various fits), all for each type of warfare (i.e. 0.0 fleets or smaller gangs, armor or shield based, long range (alpha fleet) or short range, fast and versatile or slow with high dps).

Thanks in advance

Andy

P.S. Any links with existing info about this topic are welcome. D.S.

1 orca running gang boosts
1 orca hauling
exhumers

very good fleet comps are kept quiet so it takes longer for the opposition to counter it. be inventive, use eft and build your own

Your question makes me think "This guy is learning to FC and wants to know what fleet compositions can be effective in different situations" but you state you are training towards Fleet Command which makes me think "This guy wants to be a booster alt."

Together, that makes me think you want to FC from a Booster Alt which makes me think you that you better have Remote Fleet Command trained to level IV at least, preferably V.

Join a good PVP corp who is looking to recruit/train FC's. Learn from an experienced FC.. One good way to learn to FC is to learn how to run incursion's as an FC first.. less risk than in PVP, and you learn how to manage a fleet.

As for fleet types, in my opinion a good PVP fleet should have the following:

- DPS ships similarly range fit, with good buffer tanks (don't have a mixed arty/auto fleet, dictate your fits so you know your optimal engagement ranges
- logistics - be it shield, armor, tier 3, triage carriers, RR, whatever, logi is life.
- Support ships - some ECM and neuts to deal with enemy logistics and danger ships like falcons and triage, things like tracking disruptors can be quite useful depending on what kind of fleet you are running
- recons - because 60km point and web is just ******* boss
- an instalocker or two - for catching fast **** on gates
- a couple good cloaky reconnaissance pilots and probes
- establish a flight ops and engagement strategy -- are you holding range, burning away, anchoring, holding on the gate .. etc. etc... MWD on/off your pilots should know what to do, and where to fly when they are in a fight

- know when your are outmatched, and when it's time to run -- don't wipe the fleet for the sake of leaving one guy who's pointed behind.

of course this is ideal, you may not be able to do this in a 5 man gang. but.. point is, plan your fleets and get people into the right ships -- kitchen sink fleets are fail.

Leading Incursions is absolutely nothing like FCing in PvP. The only similarity between the two is the question: "are we tanking?"

Get guys you know and trust to run as scouts/bait. They will be invaluable in finding and grabbing targets.

In terms of actual gang/fleet composition... start with basic T1 DPS ships then expand on that (ex. add an ewar ship or two... logi or two, all DPS frigates, all snipers with tacklers, etc.).

Also remember that Ewar ships only help up to a certain point... in large fleets Ewar becomes somewhat pointless... and that you should probably "hide" your forces in larger [potential] engagements to encourage the enemy to come out and actually engage.

All these are generalizations though. Each engagement is different and requires slightly different tactics.
