Will 100 likes be enough?

It should be interesting if that is a high enough bar to keep the truly electable out.

I'm just over that bar and I'm not claiming to think I am super electable but I would love to hear if the other candidates think this new hurdle is going make any difference.

Well some people might be always likeing people, just to troll with the elections. So who knows how many likes would be best. More candidates the more fun there will be anyhow. Plus abortions are bad.

Mark my words: these 'likes' mean nothing.

I've suggested to Diagoras several times that given how much he lists stats, he should publish stats on where each candidate's likes are coming from (say, broken down by Alliance).

Sure, there'll be a lot of noise from empire alts, but it would voters at least some extra information to help them judge the viability of particular candidates.

I doubt 100 is enough, I hope they raise the bar a little next year. When I see people like "lets put breasts on guys" getting anywhere close to 100 votes (thank God not over that bar yet, and hopefully not ever), it really shows it isn't enough to keep out the trolls.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the likes meant to help a candidate get approved for the candidacy rather than be directly elected? I'm starting to get the impression that some people here misinterpreted the purpose of the "like".

It's kind of like the primaries. To get on the ballot, you have to meet a certain bar of support. We don't want every joe schmo who has no platform and no intention to help represent players to be on the ballot. When trolls can manage that 100 votes, it means the bar is too low. We want to filter out the trolls before we get to the ballot stage.

Xenuria is proof. 100 Likes for someone who's only platform is to allow you to put breasts on male characters. Obvious troll, very unlikely to have any benefit to us as players. Not the sort of person we want flown to Iceland to represent us.

Is an excellent idea. Ideally a 'like' on a nomination thread can only be given by a character who replies to said thread for ease of identification .. but that would lead to insane thread speeds (ie. forum is not designed for it).

Perhaps prospective candidates could have their introduction threads glued until 2x requirement was met or something.

So really what you're asking for is to do away with elections and put your Pro Pants Party in control?

The likes and what number is needed is really no big deal.

For the candidate to make the official list they have to get a passport and send in the info to CCP. Sometimes I think that is harder then the likes and is enough to show a candidate is serious.

Hello,

I hope you don't mind if I field this comment, but I think I am in an unique position to offer insight to it. I am a candidate for the CSM this cycle, and depending on whom you ask I am a "troll candidate". As you may or may not know, I am also the single most popular poster on the EVE Online forums, which means that no reasonable number is so high that I could not reach it. Applying the principle of mediocrity to myself, I would assert that if I, a humble sky captain of mere human intellect, can reach this number through prolific posting and self-referencing memetics then so, too, could any other "troll candidate". You seem to be making an assertion against the problem without at all recognizing that the problem is a problem unto itself, rather than a problem derived from magnitude.

Xenuria's post has over 100 likes.

This is evidence enough that the even completely un-electable can get on the ballot past this laughable limit.

This would be like knowing who is funding what political campaign (IRL) before voting starts. I think your idea of transparency sounds destructive to the democratic aim of the CSM

It is just another hoop to jump through. I am fairly sure that some organizations are actually actively 'liking' some candidates to dilute the field of the competition.

Kind of counter to Izzlers attempts to narrow and focus a bloc of voters. The more that make it past the wire, the less each will get.
