Best small-gang PvP HAC with current skills?

Hi,

I'd greatly appreciate some advice here. I want to train into a HAC for small gang PvP but I'm not sure which one to go for.

I'm mostly Caldari specced with shield and missile skills, but I'm willing to cross-train. I've read that the Vagabond is a good option but couldn't find any recent discussions.

Any thoughts?

It all depends on the gang makeup. FWIW, the consensus seems to be that the Caldari HACs are a bit lacking for gang fights. Most particularly the Eagle. The other HACs are generally more favored for one type of gang or another, but the HAC you want to bring would be dependent on the gang makeup.

Yeah I got the impression that Caldari wouldn't be the way to go. The fleet composition is still to be decided so assuming we all flew the same ship, would that help narrow the choices down? I know there isn't a 'best' ship but a quick summary of the top choices would really help me out.

Cerb makes a decent sniping HAC. That's about it.

Minnie: requires Sheilds, Projectiles, Nav skills, moderate cap skills

Vaga is a great roaming ship, has speed, DPS, and a viable solo option.

Munin is an ok sniping Hac

Amarr: requires Good cap skills, lasors, armor tank, missiles

Zealot is a great DPS sniping HAC prob the best., Great LRH, decent for AH gangs as well.

Sac: Great low-sec pirating ship, good tackle, overall probably the most sound HAC in the game and uses missles.

Gallente: lacking in PvP. requires: armor tank, hybrids, drones, moderate cap skills.

Ishtar: good ratting ship, ok-ish nano boat

Deimos: decent up close and personal DPS/tackling roaming ship.

I suggest Minnie or Amarr. Amarr takes the prize due to missles and you having the skills. Sac isn't a bad choice for small gang PvP. Sac is very underrated regardless of what the minions of noobs say on here. Minnie and Amarr are both great choices though. Amarr has 2 good HACS, Minnie has 1 GREAT Hac.

With your current skills, there's nothing wrong with a nano cerb or nano ncara. As to the Vagabond: I dunno, they seem like really expensive lossmails to the first Thorax you encounter...

I'd suggest a Sacrilege since you probably have all the missile skills, you'd only need to train up some armor and the ship skills (training these to 3-4 would only take a few days...), instead of training up all the gunnery skills you'd need for Minnie HAC + ship skills.

Top advice all, cheers :) The Sacriledge is sounding like a tasty option, I'll look into it.

Further advice more than welcome!

Amarr Cruiser V would "only take a few days"?

Yeah, the Thorax and Hawk are my go-to ships for killing Vagas and Cynabals. Yes, really.

I can sort of see the Hawk (dualprop+TD setup), but Thorax? If it's armor fit the Vaga goes literally almost twice its speed at least, with the fit I use), and if it's shield fit, the Vaga could probably kill it even if it got tackled (which is still unlikely). Either I'm missing something big, or you've been fighting a lot of horrible, horrible Vaga pilots.

I can kinda see a dualprop Hawk, but that's not the actual fit I use. As to the Thorax: I tend to find people are pretty surprised at how fast you can get on top of them with it. :)

Caldari don't have HACs, they have Recons.
Zealot, Vagabond, Ishtar are all excellent ships.

There is no Bob.

Vagabond is pretty obsolete in the face of Tier 3 BCs and buffed AFs tbh. Like, the ship is being fingercuffed, figuratively speaking. And Muninns are gawdawful in small-gangs, literally less DPS than a Drake at about two-thirds the effective range. And you still get solo'ed by even a AF with mediocre pilot behind it.

Given your Caldari sec you could consider the Gila.

Or... Blarpy? (Yes its not a HAC but 'ACs seem to be cool atm)

Vagabond is falling out of favour somewhat it seems at the moment. I haven't had enough exposure to it recently to know whether this is just forum speculation or really the case that it cannot rip the crap out of AFs etc now.
