So I finally came back to Eve after a long break, currently Minmatar with 3 million SP. The thing is, I really havn't played this game much. I did the career advancement's and part of the sisters of Eve, but that's where it ends.

Currently I'm stationed in Rens with my Fitted Hurricane, Thrasher as my Salvager, and few unfitted rifters/thrashers, Retreiver...
I'd like to head down the combat path, preferebly getting into some PVP after I make some ISK to pay for fittings. Whats my best course of action to get into pvp/lower security standings?

Whats my best course of action, hop in my cane and start small with L2 security missions near Rens? I really havnt gotten into Exploration and salvaging, but might pick that up as a side-job...

Anyways, just a lost eve player that needs a bit of assistance

Same thing I say to everyone that asks this exact question... train propulsion jamming lvl 1 and join a pirate corp Pirate

Hell a point is a point, doesn't matter what ship has it

If you want to get in to PvP and pirating, I would recommend joining a pirate corp or any PvP corp who accepts player who pirate. The game is simply more fun in a corp and having buddies who help and give advice opens up many more PvP opportunities, than you would have otherwise. Also expect to die a lot early on, so don't pimp your ships until you're comfortable with flying them and know what you're doing.

As for how to make your income, I would actually recommend you at least look in to exploration instead of just grinding missions. It has one distinctive advantage over missioning, that will benefit you long term. Exploration can be done anywhere in EVE and provides a decent level of income doing it. It means your income earning ability isn't tied to one area of space or a set of agents. No matter where you live, there are always explorations sites available and you can fund a PvP habit doing them. Salvaging, hacking and archeology skills are also useful when exploring, but most of the sites are combat focused. It also familiarizes you with scanning and that will be a useful skill to know for both scanning down targets as well as evading them.

First, establish a source of income. Be it missions, in-station trading, or buying a plex and selling it on the market... whatever. There are numerous guides detailing the methods of making isk in Eve... google them.

Determine what type of PvP you're interested in. If you're looking for nullsec battles, one path might be joining Eve University, getting some experience, and then moving to TGRADS. If you want to PvP in groups, find a corp willing to accept someone your age (or form your own corp from like-minded individuals).

If solo might be your thing, fit up some Rifters and head to lowsec. Hotspots for T1 frig combat are currently Helid, Hevrice, and Amamake area. Expect losses... everyone has them starting out. Learn from each lost combat. Ask for advice from those who just pounded your ship to dust... you'd be surprised how nice they are. Don't pod anyone unless you're looking to go pirate very quickly. Learn the security status restrictions and crime flagging mechanics.

Watch the killboards of the better known pirate organizations such as the Tuskers and Black Rebel Rifter Club. Look at their losses and you'll begin to get a feel for what a competent pilot can do in a ship and why they fit that way. (Yes... you're looking at a loss, but generally those two organizations 'hit above their weight' consistently in regard to target selection IMO.)

Google pirate blogs. Great reading. But remember that all the reading and study in the world cannot replace experience. Get out there and fight.

Hope that helps... it's a very big subject to cover. If you've more specific questions; ask.

To confirm, losses on a killboard doesn't mean it's a terrible fit. There is no such thing as an "I win button" ship, so every ship, how good the fit might be, can (and usually will) be killed eventually. Also almost every ship in PvP has a certain role, if it encounters a battle where it isn't suited for it, it can die while in other battles that suit the ships role it will actually kill a lot of stuff. So losses don't always mean bad ships.

PvP does nto require a mass of sp or a fancy ship, in fact it is often better in cheaper ships.
As mentioned get a warp scrambler or warp disruptor and your set. skill and fitting wise.
The rifter is a great ship, fit 3 autocannons, nos, 1mn mwd(or afterburner), scrambler, webifier, damage control, and fill out the others with what ever you like.
The most important thing however is a good corp! Getting with with poeple who can show you the ropes and give you fleets will be the biggest help. They will give you a place to grow and learn. Very little of PvP in eve is 1:1, especially 1 prepared person vs another prepared person. A corp will give you fun group fights.

For a plan, get the rifter skills up a bit, this will be your main pvp ship for a while. you will work towards the huricane. The huricane will eventually become a great pvp ship for you but also acts as an income ship.

Agreed, cheaper ships usually mean more fun PvP, as you can loose a ship, jump into the next one and join the fight again. Loosing a pimp-fit Machariel will mean you will cry over your loss (even just for a bit) but loosing 10 basic fitted rifters will make you laugh at the fun fights you had with them (even if it only last a couple of minutes with each one).

And yes, EVE has very very little true 1-v-1 PvP as most people either use remote reps or boosters or even let their fleet jump in on the fight. Someone in the past told me there is no PvP in EVE, it's all PvPPPPPPP (also known as Player vs Blob).
