Repair tool questions

I've been having an issue where after clicking on my eve shortcut it can take upto 2 or 3 minutes for the login splash screen to actually appear, so I thought I'd run the repair tool to see if there's some problem.

Now I just wanted to ask is it normal that the repair tool firstly needed an update (said it was last updated last year)?

And then is it normal that when it gets to 'Step 2 - Hashing' that it has a timer fluctuating from 45 minutes up to over 1 hour and then back down?

Any help/experiences of users of the repair tool appreciated. Cheers.

Sounds like a very slow (or maybe already nearly podded) Harddrive to me..
